IRC BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression throughout the U.S. IRC in San Diego has resettled over 31,000 refugees to San Diego County over the past 50 years and provides numerous program services. In San Diego, the IRC opened its doors in 1975 and has grown to serve approximately 7,000 refugee and immigrant individuals from 115 countries of origin each year through 5 different departments.

SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP: The intern will work closely with the Workforce and Integration Department, gaining hands-on experience in data entry and supporting employment specialists with a variety of administrative and operational tasks. The internship will provide exposure to workforce management systems, The intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the day-to-day operations, helping with data management, and ensuring smooth communication between teams. This role will foster growth in administrative skills, data organization, and understanding of employment processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Enter and update client information and job application data in relevant systems.

  • Help employment specialists apply for jobs on behalf of clients.

  • Assist in creating and formatting resumes for clients.

  • Reach out to potential employers to discuss job opportunities for clients.

  • Assist in maintaining communication with employers about job openings.

  • Organize and manage files related to client records.

  • Help prepare paperwork and documents needed for job applications, client profiles, and employer communication.

 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Learn how to accurately enter and manage client and job data.

  • Gain skills in creating professional resumes and applying for jobs on behalf of clients.

  • Develop communication skills by reaching out to employers and maintaining relationships.

  • Learn how to organize and maintain important documents and client records.

  • Get hands-on experience with the recruitment process, from job applications to employer outreach.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and document management. 

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time effectively. 

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

This position reports to the Data and Quality Assurance Specialist

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship opportunity.

Working Environment:

  • The Workforce and Integration Internship is in-person at the San Diego office.

  • San Diego Office hours are scheduled Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm PST. Selected interns can choose their hours based on this window of availability.
