Mission and objectives

UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.

UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights as enduring ethical principles and international standards of behaviour towards children.

UNICEF insists that the survival, protection and development of children are universal development imperatives that are integral to human progress.

Context

The Office of Innovation (OoI) works to catalyze UNICEF and partners’ expertise and resources to solve key challenges facing children and young people, with a view to sourcing, accelerating and scaling the most effective solutions to accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs. To achieve this the Office of Innovation uses an innovation portfolio management approach and leverages support from a range of stakeholders including from intergovernmental, multilateral, private sector, young people and non-governmental fora (think tank, academia).

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Innovation Specialist (Knowledge Management and Analytics) or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the Data Analytics and Insights Specialist will:

• Develop interactive data products in support of specific innovation initiatives. This will include developing dashboards (with a focus on Power BI, and Power Apps), automated reports, and visualizations tailored to non-technical audiences. This will include collaborating closely with technical, programmatic, and country teams to understand data needs and deliver tailored analytics solutions.
• Build and enhance data pipelines to automate data collection, cleaning, and integration of data from multiple sources for data/information products.
• Create analytical reports on innovation initiatives, using data analysis and communication skills to turn data into digestible and engaging products. This includes identifying common data questions and meeting gaps by providing targeted analyses, and developing tailored reports to maximize the consumption of insights.
• Coordinate and troubleshoot reporting inputs from multiple teams. Collaborate with multiple stakeholders to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of inputs.
• Conduct training sessions and workshops to build capacity on data platforms, reporting tools, and analytics best practices across diverse teams.
• Support the management of innovation initiative data. This includes cleaning and maintaining the database, as well as setting up automated checks to identify and create alerts for data issues.
• Support data harmonization. Assess the current suite of dashboards and data products to make improvements on user experience, data consistency/accuracy, design, and quality across the office. This also includes working to ensure integration between various critical data platforms.
• Other data analytics, insights, and reporting tasks, as needed.
