The Speech Therapist is responsible for preventing, assessing, diagnosing and treating speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders in children at school or under Dirasa (out of school for more than 2 years Lebanese and Syrian children enrolled in private and private free schools in Beirut/Mount Lebanon BML).

The therapists will be collaborating with the IRC inclusion officer and caregivers to develop treatment plans, implement therapeutic interventions, and support individuals in achieving their therapeutic goals.

Deliverables:

  • Identify speech, language, communication, and swallowing difficulty or disorder.
  • Conduct two assessment sessions for each child using standardized tests and provide a report with scores and a summary of the results.
  • Develop a suitable and individualized treatment plan for 15 rehabilitation sessions, using various evidence-based techniques to address the disorder or difficulty identified, based on the assessment findings.
  • Work collaboratively and closely with caregivers, teachers and other professionals involved in the child's care to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting their communication development.
  • Regularly coordinate with the Inclusion Focal Point to confirm upcoming appointments and arrange follow-ups as needed.
  • Regularly assess the child's progress towards the set goals.
  • Submit record sheets for each session conducted with the child, while maintaining detailed confidential records
  • Inform the Inclusion officer about clients who present more complex profiles, and who need further support, and more sessions and or services.
  • Providing referrals for additional care or services when required.
  • Follow IRC security measures and policies.
  • Participate in meetings, reporting, and planning meetings to ensure adherence to standards of care quality and reporting requirements.
  •  Provide a final therapy feedback report on the child's progress, indicating whether improvements were observed or not.

Speech Therapy session’s structure

1. Assessment sessions:

  • The Speech therapist conducts 3 initial assessment sessions using standardized tests.
  • These sessions must be completed within the same week.
  • After the assessments, the therapist provides a report with test scores and a summary of the child’s strengths and weaknesses.

2. Rehabilitation therapy sessions:

  • Each student receives 15 rehabilitation therapy sessions after the assessment phase.
  • Therapy begins the following week after the assessment.
  • Monthly schedule: 5 sessions per month (1 session per week, except for one week with 2 sessions).
  • Total number of sessions/children = 18.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's and master’s degrees in Speech Therapy.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, neurology, and psychology related to Speech Therapy.
  • 1 to 2 years of accredited experience as a Speech therapist.
  • Previous NGO experience is a plus.
  • Well-developed listening and interview skills to explore children with needs and administer treatment plans.
  • Strong oral communication skills to counsel and advise children with needs.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to develop effective treatment plans.
  • Coaching skills to help children with needs make positive changes.
  • Organization skills to maintain up-to-date, easy-to-navigate children with needs files.
  • Familiarity with privacy, health, and safety laws.
  • Fluency in verbal and written Arabic and French.
  • English language is requested for reporting.
  • Computer skills to operate record keeping, scheduling, email, and word processing software.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday to Thursday, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Work Location:

  • Working in Dirasa schools all over BML.

Project End: 

  • 30 September 2025
