The UN Technology Bank became operational in 2018 and serves the 45 least developed countries (LDCs) and former least developed countries for up to five years after their graduation from the category.
The UN Technology Bank supports national and regional technological efforts, reinforces partnerships across sectors and helps nations identify and use appropriate technologies to transform their economies and improve livelihoods.

Context
The United Nations Technology Bank (UNTB) for the Least Developed Countries is the primary entity responsible for building and strengthening the scientific, technological, and innovative capacities of the world’s 44 Least Developed Countries (LDCs). The UN Technology Bank is pivotal in facilitating access to knowledge, technologies, and technical assistance essential for accelerated and sustainable development in these countries.
The national UN Volunteer will play a key role in enhancing the visibility and outreach of the UN Technology Bank by developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives. This includes creating engaging content for digital and traditional media, managing the organization's online presence, and producing publications, reports, and promotional materials. The UN Volunteer will ensure that key messages align with the UN Technology Bank’s mandate, effectively conveying its impact in supporting science, technology, and innovation in the world’s least developed countries. Additionally, the UN Volunteer will support internal communication efforts, ensuring a cohesive and consistent narrative across all platforms.
In support of the UN Technology Bank’s advocacy and partnership efforts, the UN Volunteer will help strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including UN agencies, governments, civil society organizations, private sector partners, and academic institutions. The UN Volunteer will assist in organizing high-level events, preparing advocacy materials, and fostering collaboration to enhance resource mobilization and programmatic impact. By engaging with external audiences and leveraging networks, the UN Volunteer will contribute to raising awareness of the UN Technology Bank’s mission and advancing its strategic objectives in promoting sustainable development through science and technology.

Task description
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Managing Director of UNTB or his/her designated mandated supervisor(s), and in close collaboration with all offices in other countries, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks to ensure timely and duly deliveries:
A. Communications and Outreach (30%)
• Assist in the implementation of the UNTB communication plan to ensure higher visibility and proper advocacy.
• Develop products (data visualizations, online contents, leaflets, brochures, PowerPoint presentations, videos etc.) to ensure proper communication and visibility of the technology needs assessment and project results achieved.
• Ensure regular posting on all social media platforms, ensuring that all relevant international days, meetings, missions and workshops are covered, along with effective liaison with in-country partners; activity sheets per country updated and inform management about major events in coordination with relevant field personnel;
• Provide regular updates on all social media platforms’ analytics, with a monthly and quarterly breakdown to be reviewed as lessons learned in going forward;
• Support the strengthening of UNTB’s engagement with partners, donors, and stakeholders through strategic communication efforts.
• Support the organization of events, campaigns, and high-level meetings by preparing communications materials and managing media relations.
B. Website and Social Media Management (30%)
• Manage and regularly update website content, including news articles, publications, event information, and multimedia resources
• Develop and oversee social media content (LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.), ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
• Perform changes on the website when needed to improve website design, navigation, and overall user experience
• Monitor and analyze social media and website analytics, providing recommendations for optimizing digital engagement.
• Ensure the integration of digital storytelling techniques to enhance audience engagement and awareness.
C. Knowledge Management (30%)
• Keep the information platforms always up-to-date and well-functioning.
• Continuously update database and content of knowledge platforms with new and quality assured information related to Centers of Excellence, technical expertise, best practices and cutting-edge developments in the science, technology and innovation space.
• Keep the activity sheets per country updated and inform management about major events in coordination with relevant field personnel.
• Lead the knowledge management efforts of UNTB.
• Support in the initiatives for knowledge management efforts of UNTB;
D. Performs other duties as required. (10%)
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
- Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December).
- Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
- Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org),
- Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
- Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
- Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
