MSF-Netherlands in Italy coordinates the Search and Rescue operations in the central Mediterranean which provide lifesaving activities and basic assistance operating with the Geo Barents ship.

 

As of June 2025, MSF-Holland is looking for a 

Technical Logistics Manager (LogAshore)

100% Sicily (Italy) office

Plan, coordinate and monitor all logistics related activities in the project area including all non-medical assistance related activities (Ship, food, water hygiene-sanitation and essential non-food items) in order to ensure an optimal running of the project.

Main responsibilities

Ensure proper Order Processing in the project.

Ensure good functioning of vehicle.

Ensure maintenance of all technical equipment.

 Organise transport of goods.

Implement all administrative related activities linked to logistics (orders, insurances, vehicle contracts,

Specific Accountabilities

 

This position is based in the home port in Sicily. The logashore supports the SAR activities and ensures that activities can run smoothly on board when the ship is at sea (there is no log on board). This position can require to occasionally spend time on board, for instance when the visitor spot is available, in order to understand how to better support the team.

 

Ship logistics:

Supply facilitation

  • Support ordering process with team and supply log on shore (medical, food & logistics).

  • Reception of stock onboard, medical, food, NFI, water and sanitation stocks.

  • While in port, assist supply log with stock counts, ordering/purchasing, etc.

  • Plan orders with sufficient lead time and inform Supply log in an organized and timely manner

  • Ensure the ship’s port calls are efficient and that the ship is ready to sail out again as quickly as possible. Organise the team for the cleaning and re-supply of the vessel at the end of each rotation.

  • Receive job requests from the team on board, provide your inputs on the improvements of the survivor hosting areas and the crew accommodation area, build and make adaptations where needed.

  • Take steps to improve the safety and comfort of survivors while keeping a long-term vision of the project’s capacities.

  • Ensure the optimization of the storage areas, adapt stock levels based on the evolution of the needs.

  • WATSAN responsible for hosting area utilities and cleaning processes. Ensure continuity of utilities and good function of the facilities. Organize MSF Team and ensure their adherence to cleaning SoPs.

  • Ensure IT and communication devices are functional before the ship goes back to sea. Be available for remote support.

  • Support the SAR team in the maintenance of their equipment (including the RHIB).

  • Ensure the regular reporting.

Base logistics:

·Manage the guesthouses and office of the project in Sicily.

·IT focal point for the staff based at the project location.

·Manage the office vehicle.

Candidate Profile 

  • Essential, secondary education and technical diploma or technical university degree, preferably as an engineer
  • Essential, 2 years of previous working experience in logistics activities related jobs 
  • Previous maritime experience, OR Hands on maintenance and construction skills · Required Experience with MSF or other international NGOs in developing countries or in an inational environment
  • Fluent English speaker C1 level 
  • Required Italian speaker B2 – C1 level
  • Technical skills in mechanics and/or WATSAN is an asset 
  • Essential computer literacy (Office package)
  •  User level knowledge of MS software IT support 
  • Valid European driving license and ability to drive manual rental vehicles is essential

We offer 

An Italian employment contract from June 2025, based on 40 hours per week. The contract is for 1 year with renewal option. Candidates should hold a work permit to work in Italy.

Gross Annual Salary: Between 35.420 Euros and 38.248 Euros, depending on MSF experience of the selected candidate. (IRFFG 9)
