We improve lives
The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and passionate people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.
About this position
We are seeking an economist with experience in data analysis to conduct quantitative studies and analysis with a special emphasis on policy analysis and social protection systems, as well as the labor market integration of vulnerable populations in Bolivia and Paraguay. The consultant will support the Division's project portfolio in the region with monitoring and follow-up activities. The consultant is expected to be able to work independently but also possess the necessary judgment to know when to consult the Division Head.
You will work in the Social Protection and Labor Markets Division (SCL/SPL), part of the Social Sector (SCL). The Social Sector has a multidisciplinary team convinced that investing in people is the path to improving lives and overcoming the development challenges of Latin America and the Caribbean. Together with the countries of the region, the Social Sector develops public policy solutions to reduce poverty and improve the education, employment, social protection, and health services that citizens receive. The Sector's work aims to promote a more productive region with equal opportunities for men and women and greater inclusion of the most vulnerable populations.
The Social Protection and Labor Markets Division aims to offer a comprehensive approach to social protection and labor market policies that strengthens resilience to risks, boosts productivity growth, reduces labor informality, and mitigates poverty.
What you’ll do
Operational Support: The consultant is expected to support the preparation, coordination, implementation, and technical monitoring (i.e., review technical and analytical products of operations) of the division's project(s) in Bolivia and Paraguay, and regionally. Projects included in the operational support program are expected to address issues related to social protection, poverty, job training, and green jobs. Key tasks include:
Logistical support in the planning and coordination of meetings for the division's Lead Operations Specialist.
Assistance in the operational and financial development of Technical Cooperation projects in Bolivia, as well as the division's operations in the region during their various phases, coordinating the corresponding inputs with the various specialists or teams involved.
Support in the generation of content for loan operations and/or technical cooperation projects (literature review, data collection and analysis, among others).
Support for Knowledge Generation: The consultant is expected to conduct research, data analysis, and knowledge generation activities. These activities are expected to be reflected in the publication of documents. The professional must be able to cooperate and create synergies with other team members and their respective knowledge production efforts.
Support in monitoring and supervising the execution of operations (loans and/or Technical Cooperation): The consultant is expected to monitor and supervise the various projects that the division is planning or carrying out, supporting the monitoring of the semiannual completion of the physical deliverables of the various projects underway that make up the Social Protection and Labor Markets Division's portfolio.
What you'll need
Education: Bachelor's degree in economics and/or business, or other fields relevant to the position's responsibilities.
Experience: At least two years of progressive experience in economic data analysis and database management, and/or in the implementation or monitoring of development projects.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferred.
Requirements
Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48 member countries.
