The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow in Asia and beyond—infrastructure with sustainability at its core. The Operational Partnership Department (OPD), under the Vice Presidency, Policy and Strategy, is responsible for managing and coordinating the operational partnerships between AIIB and relevant multilateral organizations, fora and stakeholders, administering the Bank’s Special Funds resources including performing the role of Implementing Partner of selected partnership facilities, as well as managing the Bank’s engagement with regional coordination mechanisms, with the objective of building relationships that can mobilize additional resources for AIIB’s investment operations. The Institutional Engagement and Cooperation Team (IEC) under the OPD department, oversees the coordination of AIIB global and regional engagement, and the overall relationship management and strategic alignment with sovereign and non-sovereign partners, originating and managing technical partnerships and providing upstream support. 

The Manager, Institutional Engagement and Cooperation, reporting to the Director General, OPD, provides transformative insight into the Bank’s partnership with multilateral development banks, international multilateral and bilateral financial institutions and fora, and public, private and philanthropic sector organizations, to strengthen the AIIB’s engagement in global and regional cooperation and position the Bank as a leader in delivering value for its clients.  The combination of technical and management expertise from the role enables AIIB to expand its investment program and build its brand as a trusted development partner. 

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic partnership management: Develop and implement AIIB’s strategic partnership approach in line with the Corporate Strategy, to advance the Bank’s reputation as a trusted partner for development and a champion for promoting global and regional connectivity and cooperation.  
  • Facilitate and coordinate Bank-wide partnership programs to build a robust partnership network to support investment operations, promote knowledge sharing, and manage institutional arrangements with key partners.   
  • Organize the Bank’s engagement strategy across different institutions and stakeholders, creating an effective platform to build partnerships aligned with the Bank’s priorities and Corporate Strategy. 
  • Develop policies, platforms, and frameworks to support Bank-wide partnership engagement, aligned with the Bank's corporate strategy and priorities. 
  • Represent the Bank in engagements with regional and subregional fora, showcasing the Bank’s investment priorities and building cooperative networks to build the Bank’s reputation as a reliable partner for development. 
  • Provide strategy advise and operational support for AIIB engagement in key global and regional forums, including G20, ASEAN, Heads of MDB Group, etc.  
  • Establish and enhance institutional relationships with international financial institutions and knowledge-based platforms in nonregional Members to promote and diversify the Bank’s investment portfolio.  
  • Perform other tasks, as assigned by the Director General, Operational Partnership Department. 

Requirements:

  • Advanced Degree in International Relations, Finance, Economics, Development Studies, Business Administration or a related discipline. 
  • Minimum 15 years of specialized experience in building strategic partnerships globally and demonstrated understanding of development issues, particularly those affecting AIIB’s Members. 
  • Strategic thinking, planning, stakeholder engagement, influencing, and leadership skills are essential in the performance of this role. 
  • Ability to network with public, private and philanthropic organizations, building institutional relationships to position the Bank as a reliable partner and enhance access to potential partnership agreements. 
  • Strong ability to provide practical application of policy, financing, technical and operational knowledge to complete difficult assignments. 
  • Superior client orientation, and able to work with all levels with staff, management, clients and partners; adept at identifying, coordinating and discussing program/project level issues with the Bank’s various departments and management. 
  • Effective interpersonal, excellent communication, and diplomatic skills, including the ability to work with, and relate to, a wide range of stakeholder-donors, clients, and staff. 
  • Comfortable to communicate and work in an international and culturally diverse environment. 
  • Proven track record of working efficiently, under time pressure and in a multicultural environment. 
  • Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in French, Portuguese or Spanish would be considered an asset. 
  • A strong team player with a proactive attitude and able to work independently. 
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in finance, business, economics, international relations, public policy, or related fields from a reputable university.
