Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the world's foremost authority on environmental issues, providing leadership and fostering partnerships to promote sustainable development. UNEP inspires and empowers nations and communities to enhance their quality of life while safeguarding the needs of future generations. Within UNEP’s Climate Change Division, the Cities Unit plays a pivotal role in advancing the UN's strategy on sustainable urban development and supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Cities Unit is looking for a senior consultant to support its work in Brazil, more specifically to support the development of full proposal and implementation plan for project focused on Nature-based Solutions and climate change adaptation in urban areas.
Qualifications/special skills
At least 9 years of demonstrated experience in developing projects for major donors (such as GEF, IKI, etc) related to climate change, urban nature and related fields and undertaking social and economic safeguards assessment. Demonstrated experience of working with different stakeholders, including national and subnational governments, compiling and addressing their feedback in a professional manner Understanding of urban development, climate, and environmental issues is required. Understanding of nature-based solutions and their application to address water access (floods) and shortage (drought) Ability to work effectively, precisely, and autonomously in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing tasks across teams. Works harmoniously in international teams, openness and flexibility, and ability to integrate feedback.
Languages
Fluency English and Brazilian Portuguese is required for this position.
