Deputy Director of Operations
MSF Operational Centre Amsterdam (OCA)
(based in Amsterdam)
The Deputy Director of Operations will be responsible for the advancement of MSF’s social mission from proposing development, implementation and innovation of the operations strategy for OCA.
Job overview
You contribute to the overall vision of the operations strategy and cultivate an environment to foster operational development, improvements and innovation across OCA and you implement the operational ambitions in line with the OCA strategic plan. You are prepared to step in and take over delegated tasks from the Director of Operations when needed.
You act as a sparring partner to the Operations Managers for support to the development of their portfolios of operations.
You create the roadmap for the Operations department, in line with OCA’s Strategic Plan.
You safeguard, promote and enhance expertise within OCA on security, crisis management and negotiated access.
You represent the Operations department internally and externally in working groups, forums and platforms to innovate OCA’s approaches to operational challenges.
You foster engagement, collaboration and a safe working environment in your team and beyond.
You ensure the organisational and process alignment necessary for operations and emergency responses, e.g. through linking with different departments, and safeguard the quality of the response.
You provide management information, and you represent the interests related to Operations towards OCA’s governance bodies and the wider MSF movement.
Candidate profile
Higher education in (an area related to) humanitarian practice/social and political sciences or in an area related to operations, logistics, business administration
Extensive experience in a variety of MSF country programmes, preferably within MSF-OCA as well as strong experience in the area of safety and security
Broad knowledge of the humanitarian aid sector, policy formulation, financial and human resource management
Extensive experience in senior leadership
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion principles
English fluency is essential, French, Spanish, Arabic are assets
We offer
A Dutch employment contract based on 40 hours per week. A gross monthly salary range between 6,688and 9,207 euros depending on relevant work experience, based on a full-time appointment.
