Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This internship is under the Nature Action Subprogramme in Regional Office West Asia, Beirut duty station. The Intern reports to Regional Coordinator, Nature Action. The intern will support various activities under the Nature Action subprogramme and assist in desk review, data collection relating to biodiversity and ecosystems in the West Asia region. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator, Nature Action the intern will: • Assist in conducting research on national policies and legislation related to biodiversity and ecosystems in the West Asia region. • Support in data collection on biodiversity and ecosystem services, and on transboundary issues related to biodiversity conservation and wildlife • Assist in collecting case studies and best practices of community engagement in the conservation of biodiversity and wildlife in the region. • Support in literature reviews and research on biodiversity/wildlife conservation issues such as illegal killing of migratory birds, pollutants on migratory birds and their habitats in West Asia countries. • Assisting in drafting advocacy briefs and awareness materials. • Support the development of reports, presentations, social media and public awareness contents based on research findings. • Support conducting outreach and community events. • Support databases and maintaining records of campaign activities. • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences, business or public administration, social science, environmental law, or related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
