Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Economics Analyst is assigned to the Kazakhstan Resident Mission (KARM) within the Central and West Asia Department. You will be based at our Resident Mission Office in Astana, Kazakhstan.

You will primarily report to the Country Director or designated international staff and officer.

Your Role

As an Economics Analyst, you will provide technical support to the Economic Unit of KARM by managing and delivering country economic and knowledge work, including economic research, data analysis, maintaining statistical databases, preparing reports, supporting business plans and strategies, analyzing ADB projects, and managing consultants.

You will:

  • Support preparation of major economic documents for the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) and ADO Update reports and help prepare regular briefings and presentations on the economy.
  • Monitor and report necessary economic and social indicators and update economic and social sector statistics. Conduct macro-economic analysis
  • Produce and construct statistical tables and documents, and edit and proofread the documents, to support the completion and accurate preparation of statistical publications/reports, presentations and other documents and reports.
  • Provide support for the economic analysis of ADB financed projects, including cost-benefit analysis.
  • Collaborate with country desk officers, economists, consultants and other relevant partners within and outside ADB, to collect updated economic data and other information to reflect into country fact sheets, annual meeting briefing papers and other materials and briefing notes for management use.
  • Provide background inputs to the ADB publications including the quarterly newsletters, activity reports, and press releases. Support knowledge management.
  • Support the country programming activities by preparing and updating the programming pipeline and Country Partnership Strategy (CPS), Work Program and Budget Framework (WPBF) and associated tasks. Support the activities on managing for development results and tracking of results as part of country portfolio review.
  • Support consultant recruitment process and review of Requests for Proposals, compile necessary data on activities and programs of other donors, arrange donor coordination meetings, and maintain records and minutes of such meetings.
  • Provide support in preparing events, conferences, and other activities.
  • Perform other responsibilities that may be assigned as reflected in the your workplan.

Qualifications

You will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, business economics, or other related fields.
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience. Preference will be given to prior work experience with development partners.
  • Experience working as an economic analyst and preparing macroeconomic databases and reports.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English, Kazakh, and Russian languages.
  • Skill in working with people from diverse cultural and national backgrounds, adapting to different work styles, and encouraging collaboration.
  • Proficiency in relevant IT applications.

Additional Information

This opening is a local staff position. It is open only to nationals and residents of Kazakhstan.

This is a fixed term appointment with option to renew for an initial period of three (3) years following Section 3.1 (b) of Administrative Order No. 2.01 ("Recruitment and Appointment'). This appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment. At the end of the initial period, this appointment may be renewed for a period of up to three years, or not renewed. There is no limit on the number of renewals. This appointment is open to internal and external applicants.
