About the job

The WASH Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of high-quality Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs within Danish Refugees Council (DRC). This position requires a strong understanding of WASH principles and methodologies, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Program Implementation:
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of WASH activities, including:
    • Water supply and sanitation infrastructure development and maintenance
    • Hygiene promotion and community education campaigns
    • Sanitation and hygiene facilities construction and improvement
    • Water quality testing and treatment
    • Emergency WASH response activities
• Community Engagement:
  • Conduct community meetings and trainings on WASH issues
  • Facilitate community-based planning and decision-making processes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, local leaders, and other stakeholders
  • Address community concerns and resolve WASH-related issues in liaison with the WASH team leader and WASH officers.
• Data Collection and Reporting:
  • Collect and analyze data on WASH program indicators
  • Prepare regular reports on activity progress and challenges.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all WASH activities (Hygiene promotion, water supply infrastructures operations and water quality data)
• Logistics and Procurement:
  • Assist in the procurement and distribution of WASH supplies and materials
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and utilization of WASH equipment and tools

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to Proven ability to prioritize tasks, Good personnel management skills, including communication, negotiating skills, and working with different groups, partners, and nationalities. And have experience in working in complex, contexts, under tight deadlines, hardship location  

Required

• At least 2 years of experience in WASH program implementation, preferably in humanitarian settings, rural communities.
• Strong understanding of WASH principles and best practices.
• Experience in community mobilization, training, and facilitation.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Fluency in English, both local or classic Arabic, Dinka/Shilluk.
• Commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities.
