Job Description

Project Context and Scope

IOM is implementing various Disaster Risk Management (DRM) and community development initiatives across South Sudan aimed at enhancing resilience, infrastructure development, and community-based disaster preparedness. The Bor Flood Risk Mitigation and ECRP projects are one of the key initiatives designed to improve access to services, strengthen flood resilience, and enhance institutional capacity. The consultant will document project progress, highlight community experiences, and create multimedia content covering IOM’s broader DRM/ECRP Projects and activities in Bor and select counties. 

Organizational Department / Unit to which the Consultant is contributing

The consultant will be responsible for media coverage, storytelling, video production, photography, and social media content creation for IOM’s Disaster Risk Management(DRM) and community development initiatives in South Sudan. Their primary focus will be the Bor Flood Risk Mitigation Project and broader activities under the Enhancing Community Resilience and Local Governance Project (ECRP). The consultant will work closely with IOM’s Communications Unit and the project team to develop compelling content highlighting the impact of IOM’s interventions across multiple locations. 

Responsibilities

Tasks to be performed under this contract

The consultant will be required to:

  • Conduct field visits to Bor, Wau, Renk, and other locations in South Sudan to document project implementation through interviews, photography, and videography.
  • Identify key narratives that effectively communicate the impact of IOM’s DRM/ECRP activities.
  • Develop engaging social media content, including short clips, infographics, and testimonials.
  • Produce a short documentary showcasing community resilience, adaptation, and IOM’s contributions to DRM and community development efforts.
  • Collaborate with IOM’s technical teams to ensure accurate representation of projects.
  • Submit the final multimedia content that is ready for dissemination across multiple platforms.
Performance indicators for the evaluation of results
  • Quality of video production, storytelling, and written content.
  • Timeliness of deliverables.
  • Engagement metrics from social media posts and media coverage.
  • Accuracy and compliance with IOM communication standards.
  • Positive feedback from stakeholders and target audiences.
 
 

Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in media communications, Journalism, Film Production, or related fields.
Experience
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in multimedia production, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
  • Proven experience in video production for advocacy, with a portfolio showcasing previous work.
  • Strong storytelling skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar).
  • Familiarity with UN communication protocols and donor reporting requirements.
  • Ability to work in remote locations and adapt to challenging environments.
Skills
  • Ability to film broadcast quality video and audio: HD 1920x1080 or better
  • Professional software editing skills (including Final Cut, Adobe CC, etc.)
  • Know different video formats and video file conversions and knowledge of converting video files from multiple formats. 
  • Have online video publishing and file transfer skills and working knowledge of publishing on social media sites 
  • Have strong storytelling skills and attention to detail
  • Have general knowledge of the workings of the UN system
Languages
 
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
 
Travel required

The consultant will be required to travel frequently to Bor, Wau, Renk, and other locations for fieldwork. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered per IOM’s policy.
