Job Description

Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates. Organizational Context and Scope:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission (COM) for Uzbekistan and in coordination from the Heads of Units, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for the following:


 

Responsibilities

1. Gather, draft and disseminate public information on IOM activities in Uzbekistan region both in writing and verbally.

2. Draft, edit and produce public information materials for IOM press briefing notes, regular newsletters, website and social media in clear and concise English and Uzbek (Russian is desirable). Verify that the developed and disseminating content supports IOM’s strategic communications goals as identified in the Organization’s Vision Document and clearly communicates IOM’s mission and values.

3. Take photographs and videos and prepare communication products showcasing IOM’s work in Uzbekistan for sharing with development partners, government stakeholders and for public release.

4. Draft and exhibit content to showcase IOM activities at external events. Assist in the organization of public awareness campaigns and events on different aspects of the projects.

5. Collaborate closely with programme staff to produce content in the form of human-interest stories. from the field, photographs and video clips for domestic and international audiences in a safe, ethical and legally compliant manner.

6. Contribute to the timely and efficient publication and distribution of media content on the Uzbekistan website iom.int and via other IOM media channels, websites, social media etc., identifying target audiences, key messages, and communication channels to effectively reach diverse stakeholders. 7. Contribute to the development of new communications initiatives such as podcasts, infographics, etc.

8. Contribute to the development and strengthening of links with local media. that promote IOM’s work and reputation. Liaise with media counterparts in governmental and non-governmental partner agencies.

9.  Monitor media and highlight IOM-related topics in national contexts, assisting the CoM in identifying changes in the media landscape and coverage trends.

10. Conduct research on migration issues affecting Uzbekistan, as required.

11. Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

High School diploma with six years of relevant professional experience, or; Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience. 

Experience

Experience in a Media and Communication role at a UN or similar agency and/or experience in working for a news media organization. 

Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Demonstrated high competency as a writer, editor and translator for non-official documents in English and Uzbek (Russian is desirable);
  • Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media and video production;
  • Familiarity with international organizations;
  • Familiarity with migration-related issues in the region advantageous;
  • Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure with minimum supervision;
  • Attention to detail and ability to organize;
  • Self-motivated and objective driven.

Languages

REQUIRED

For this position, fluency in English and Uzbek is required (oral and written).

DESIRABLE

Working knowledge of Russian is an advantage.

IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
