Power and EMC Lead Engineer
Frascati, IT
Location
ESRIN, Frascati, Italy
Description
Power and EMC Lead Engineer, Vega and Space Rider Launch System and Engineering, Flight Programmes, Directorate of Space Transportation. Under the direct authority of the Vega and Space Rider Launch System and Engineering Manager and the functional coordination of the Vega and Space Rider Avionics, GNC and FSW Engineering Manager, you will undertake analysis, definition and verification tasks concerning power generation and distribution, EMC/EMI and radio frequency functions of the Vega-C, Vega-E and Space Rider systems.
Duties
Your range of activities will encompass power generation, storage and distribution systems for Vega and Space Rider vehicles and/or on-board-ground end-to-end functions. You will steer the verification of system-level functions with an end-to-end view. You will also support projects for the development, qualification and recurrent production of subsystems and equipment in your domain of competence.
You will secure the system’s conformance to electrical interface, EMC/EMI and radio frequency requirements by defining and justifying the requirements, defining verification plans, supervising their implementation and finally producing the system-level definition and qualification files.
Finally, your responsibilities will include support for the recurrent production and exploitation activities of the systems in operation by supporting equipment/subsystem/system-level test campaigns, as well as analysing waivers and anomalies.
You will propose working methods that will not only achieve the requested results, but also aim for technical excellence and the lean use of resources (for example, by avoiding requests for unnecessary tests and by always selecting the most efficient verification methods).
Your main tasks will include:
- carrying out trade-off analysis at the system architecture and subsystem/equipment definition levels;
- apportioning technical requirements from the system level to power subsystems;
- helping write statements of work;
- leading study contracts in your domain of competence and managing the activities of technical support staff;
- evaluating industrial offers and evaluating industry deliverables;
- supporting the preparation and implementation of the main project milestones, including specific project reviews at the system and subsystem levels, in your area of responsibility;
- managing the related schedules and associated risks;
- monitoring the manufacturing and acceptance of hardware under your direct responsibility, ensuring compliance of the mission-specific configuration with the product qualification range;
- assessing/resolving ground and flight anomalies/non-conformances and requests for waivers/deviations;
- reviewing the implementation of the harness system design and manufacturing processes, as well as their deliverables;
- assessing the evolving definition (ECP) of power systems and their compliance with EMC/EMI requirements;
- supervising the demonstration of system resilience to external radiated and conducted EMC emissions, establishing system susceptibility levels, defining and verifying link budgets for radio frequency links as well as noise immunity for wired connections and generally for any receiver;
- following up the technical activities addressing component/material obsolescence and actions aimed at reducing recurrent costs during the exploitation phase.
