Background

UNODC’s mission is to contribute to global peace and security, human rights and development by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism. UNODC is the specialized organ of the UN Secretariat in charge of combating illicit trafficking and organized transnational crime. The main themes that UNODC deals with are the following: Drug Trafficking, Organized Crime, Corruption, Criminal Justice, Prison Reform and Crime Prevention, Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care, Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling, Money Laundering, Wildlife crime and 

Cyber-crime, Piracy, Terrorism Prevention. As a result, it has developed an unique expertise and experience and is able to design and implement large programmes, at national, regional or global. 

UNODC has been present in West Africa for more than 25 years through its Regional Office for West and Central Africa (ROSEN), based in Dakar, and UNODC Guinea Bissau Office was stablished in 2007.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide reliable and secure driving services using UNODC vehicle for Country Office to programmes and operations staff, experts and consultants, and UN officials and visitors.

  • Transport authorized personnel. 
  • Deliver and collect mail and documents; and perform other messenger responsibilities. 
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport and assist with visa and customs formalities arrangement when required

2.) Ensure cost-saving through proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned office vehicle. 

  • Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs.
  •  Provide inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports. 
  • Make timely minor repairs and/or arrange for major repairs
  • Ensure timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc. 

3.) Ensure availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies and necessary spare parts.

  • Keep current in vehicle documents such as vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country. 
  • Ensure vehicle first aid kit is adequately stocked with standard medical supplies.

4.) Take all immediate actions required by rules, regulations, and laws in case of involvement in accidents.

5) Perform other duties within incumbent’s functional profile as assigned and deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and Organization

  • Additional duties may include assisting with pouch, procurement, workshops, and other administrative tasks that the Head of UNODC Guinea Bissau Office may assign.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

Secondary Education with a valid driver’s license.

Experience:

  • Have a valid driver's license; at least 5 years of professional experience. 
  • Experience in the United Nations system or International Organization is an asset. 
  • Be familiar with VHF radios; have an excellent knowledge of traffic regulations and good driving habits; have a knowledge of mechanics; have a good knowledge of the geographical location of Bissau city; demonstrate knowledge in security measures and protocol
