Functional Responsibilities

Main duties and tasks Under the direct supervision of the Head of People Centered Programmes, the intern will have the following functional responsibilities :

a. Database Development and Integration

  • Support data gathering and desk research to explore best practices and approaches for managing and maintaining structured data platforms to support the Clean Cooking Transition in Schools Initiative. 

  • Assist with the integration of diverse data sources, such as survey and remote metering data, under the guidance of the team.

  • Provide logistical and communication support for coordination activities across teams and partners to help ensure data-related work aligns with program needs and technical guidance.

b. Data Processing and Analysis

  • Assist with data processing tasks, including cleaning, basic preprocessing, and structuring.

  • Support simple statistical data analysis under supervision to help identify trends and patterns in the data.

  • Provide basic support in preparing and organizing data for economic analysis, including cost-benefit and value-for-money assessments, as guided by the team.

  • Assist in the preparation of simple data visualizations and contribute to the development of project dashboards.

c. Impact and Reporting

  • Assist in the development of project indicators and simple data management tools.

  • Provide support for the preparation of analytical summaries and assist with drafting sections of technical and progress reports.

  • Provide research and administrative support for the development of methodologies used in impact studies, such as value-for-money or cost-benefit analysis. 

d. Documentation and Knowledge Management

  • Support the documentation of data workflows and analytical procedures, under guidance, to facilitate knowledge transfer.

  • Assist in compiling technical guidance materials and contributing to knowledge sharing among partners and internal stakeholders.

Learning Objectives

This internship provides hands-on experience and growth opportunities in the following areas:

  • Exposure to structured data management concepts platforms, with opportunities to assist in organizing and maintaining datasets for the Clean Cooking Transition in Schools initiative.

  • Development of basic data processing and transformation skills through hands-on support in cleaning, integrating, and preparing data for analysis and reporting.

  • Applied data analysis techniques, including assisting with the preparation of dashboards, visualizations, and simple statistical summaries to support programmatic insights.

  • Exposure to data and learning frameworks and to the integration of remote metering technologies, providing insight into digital tools for energy tracking and assessment.

  • Strengthening of communication and coordination skills through collaboration with SEforALL teams and external partners in a multi-stakeholder environment.

  • Familiarization with documentation and knowledge management practices, contributing to the preparation of clear, replicable data processes and supporting learning activities.

  • Gaining a deeper understanding of results-based management approaches in the context of clean energy access, including exposure to indicator development, data collection strategies, and progress reporting aligned with SDG 7.


Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed (within the last three years) a Bacheor's degree, Master’s degree or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Economics, Public Policy, or another relevant field. 
Experience 
  • Applicants are not required to have prior work experience, however prior experience in managing, cleaning, and analyzing structured datasets, preferably in an applied development or energy-related context would be an advantage.
  • Prior work or academic project experience involving SQL-based database development and/or integration of multiple data sources is an asset.
  • Experience working with development organizations, government agencies, or research institutions on sustainability or energy access projects is desirable.
  • The ideal candidate would also have some skills in data processing, statistical analysis, and data visualization (e.g. Excel, Python, R, Power BI, or similar tools) as well as basic proficiency in SQL and database management.
Language 
  • Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
