Description

Emerging Technologies Communications Officer, Digital and Print Products and Channels Office, Products and Channels Division, Communication Department, Director General’s Services.

Under the supervision of the Head of Digital and Print Products and Channels, you will assist in identifying, deploying and managing any new technologies with a specific focus on new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) solutions required for corporate communication within the European Space Agency. 

The objective is to advance the digitalisation of the Communication Department by deploying new technology such as AI solutions.

As such, you will survey and assess new cutting-edge digital technologies available on the market and analyse their potential applicability within the ESA Communication Department.

In close cooperation with the IT Department, the AI Competence Cluster in the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC) and the various Offices of the Communication Department, you will identify and support the implementation and adoption of appropriate technologies and AI solutions required to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Communications Department’s products and work processes.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • surveying and assessing the pertinence of new cutting-edge digital technologies for communication purposes, such as generative AI for video, graphics and text, virtual reality, mixed reality and augmented reality, and proposing a dedicated plan for development and implementation;
  • developing and implementing a DG-C strategy for emerging communication technologies including AI by:
    • collaborating with ESA’s Information Technology Department to ensure alignment and to ensure that the use of existing or future AI tools adheres to the Agency-wide rules regarding the usage of AI applications;
    • working closely with the AI Competence Centre in TEC to contribute to and benefit from the Agency-wide developments in AI applications;
    • partnering with all Heads of Office of the Communication Department to understand and take their AI application needs into account when rolling out AI applications for the Communication Department;
  • support the implementation and rolling out of new technologies and AI applications as a change management exercise, ensuring that the tools will be used and contribute to the digitalisation of the workflows of the Department;
  • accompanying the end user to ensure they develop the necessary skills in line with the digital transformation;
  • implementing robust data governance processes to ensure data quality, security and compliance with regulations;
  • identifying for the Communication Department and support the implementation, as a priority, of AI application solutions in the areas of translation, video generation and editing, knowledge management, chat bots and impact monitoring;
  • acting as an ambassador for emerging communications technologies within and for the Communication Department and the Agency; 
  • advising on future trends and the impact of new technologies – AI in particular – in the field of Communications;
  • setting measurable objectives and KPIs to track progress  and success;
  • adhering to ethical AI principles and relevant regulations, for example the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (RMF).

Education

A master’s degree in digital marketing or any relevant disciplines such as information technology, AI, coding, operations/logistics with AI and new technologies is required for this post.

Additional requirements

Significant experience in new technologies and AI solutions for communications, ideally in an international environment.
Knowledge of ESA as an organisation, as well as proven experience in implementing AI solutions.
Good understanding of KPI measurements and media analytics.

Proficiency in Italian, Spanish or German would be an asset in addition to the official ESA languages: English and French.

In principle, recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
