Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This post is in UNEP Reginal Office for West Asia at the Beirut duty station.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Regional Office for West Asia is enhancing its Science-Policy Subprogramme to better support countries in addressing environmental challenges through the effective integration of science into policy processes. Structured around four interconnected pillars: data, science, assessment, and policy, the subprogramme aims to strengthen the generation, communication, and use of scientific knowledge to inform national and regional decision-making. In this context, UNEP is seeking the support of a UN Youth Volunteer to assist in the coordination and implementation of activities that bridge the gap between science and policy. The role focuses on strengthening the interface between science and policy by contributing to the preparation of regional assessments, enhancing environmental data and knowledge management, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. The UN Volunteer will assist in organizing capacity-building activities, preparing technical materials, and tracking the implementation of the subprogramme’s workplan, developing concepts on environmental governance tailored to the regional context; drafting project reports and other documentation; organizing meetings, webinars, and related events; and performing other duties related to project implementation, including communication activities and social media engagement

This assignment offers a valuable opportunity for a motivated young professional to contribute to regional science-policy efforts, gain practical experience in environmental analysis and stakeholder engagement, and support the application of evidence-based approaches to sustainable development in West Asia.

• Provide logistical and administrative support to ensure smooth implementation of subprogramme activities.
• Perform other related tasks to strengthen the integration of science into environmental decision-making in West Asia
• Perform other duties, as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
