Functional Responsibilities
Reporting to the Fleet Associate, the Vehicle Operations and Maintenance Assistant will carry out the following duties:
A. Provide reliable and secure driving services

Drive office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other supplies and equipment as directed by the supervisors.

Operate heavy machinery like forklift, crane, big trucks and MPV and provide relevant information on their maintenance.

Ensure that the Daily Movement Sheets are completed correctly after each vehicle returns to the base.

Responsible for ensuring that the daily vehicle check lists are present and completed before any vehicle departs. All discrepancies must be documented.

Checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.

Performing minor repairs where required and arranging for major repairs.

Ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean at all times.

Conduct physical repairs, maintenance of the entire fleet, including light vehicles, armored vehicles, and Mine Protected Vehicles (MPVs).

Work closely with, and monitor, external workshops conducting repairs and maintenance that the UNMAS workshop does not have capacity to perform.

Assist Fleet department with advice on suppliers and providing the list of requirements that will help for obtaining quotations.

Assist in preparation of repair and maintenance schedules for the fleet.

Ensure that the workshop is clean and tidy at the end of each working day; that the workshop tools are put away in their allocated location at the end of each working day.

Travel to remote locations to facilitate vehicle recovery, servicing and repairs as needed.

Provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.

Assist the Fleet associate in stock take of vehicle spare parts and tools

If needed, assist the Fleet department in obtaining spare parts quotations.

Ensuring that the assigned vehicle is Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) compliant.

Wearing protective equipment such as safety boots, gloves, overall, when performing any manual work to avoid injuries.

Observing required measures when using vehicle tools such as jack, winch, and other tools.

Keeping the working environment clean from waste disposal.

Performing manual handling carefully by observing required measures to avoid injuries.

Ensuring that immediate steps are taken in case of involvement in an accident as required by UNOPS rules and regulations.

Ensure that UN Rules and Regulations steps required are taken in cases of any involvement in accidents.

Vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, waiver form, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary tools, spare parts.
-
Maintenance of accurate fuel logs.

Log official trips, daily mileage, gas/fuel consumption, and assist with regular vehicle inspection.
The Vehicle Operations and Maintenance Assistant will provide required support to the programme in performing driving and mechanical duties. The Vehicle operations and Maintenance Assistant contribution shall directly impact the efficient and effective management of transport and workshop deliveries. |
Education/Experience/Language requirements
- Secondary Education ( High School or equivalent ) with minimum 4 years of relevant experience is required.
- Relevant experience is defined in driving light and heavy duty vehicles ( armoured and MPVs vehicles) and operating the backhoe loader/forklift with a minimum of 4 years is required.

Experience in repairs of light vehicles and heavy machinery like forklift and crane is required.

Experience in Gas welding is desired.

Experience working with a multi-national/cultural environment is desired.

A valid South Sudanese Driver’s License for operating manual transmission vehicles (with categories B and D1 as a minimum) is required (Please attach a copy of your Driver’s License to your application).

Experience in the usage of computers is desired

Fluency in English (read/speak/write) is required.
-
Fluency in other UN official languages is desired.
