Head of Business Development, Innovation and Strategy*
in Juba
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Juba, South Sudan.
The Head of Business Development, Innovation and Strategy (HoBDIS) is a senior leadership role, member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), and lead of the Country Program Team. The position drives business development, innovation, and strategic positioning of WHH in South Sudan, ensuring the organization remains a trusted partner for donors, peers, and government. The HoBDIS will champion bold, forward-looking approaches, strengthen partnerships, and lead on the diversification of WHH’s portfolio in line with the Country Strategy and WHH’s Global Strategy 2026–2030.
The role requires a confident and bold professional with strong networking skills, capable of fostering high-level engagement, while also being reflective and analytical.
Your responsibilities
- Provide visionary leadership in positioning WHH as a thought leader in resilience, innovation, and food systems within South Sudan and the wider region.
- Shape and drive WHH’s business development agenda, identifying and securing high-value, strategic funding opportunities across bilateral, multilateral, and private sector donors.
- Lead the design of pioneering, multi-stakeholder programs that challenge conventional models and deliver transformative impact.
- Forge and maintain senior-level relationships with donors, government, private sector, and research institutions to expand WHH’s influence and partnerships.
- Anticipate donor and sectoral trends, ensuring WHH is consistently ahead of the curve in strategic direction and innovation.
- Oversee and guarantee the quality, competitiveness, and strategic alignment of all major proposals and concept notes.
- Champion innovation by introducing new technologies, financing models, and programmatic approaches that can be scaled across WHH operations.
- Act as a key external representative of WHH, speaking at high-level forums and shaping national and regional policy dialogues.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of technical experts, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
- Contribute as a core SMT member to organization-wide strategy, risk management, and decision-making.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in International Development, Business Administration, Political Science, or related fields.
- Minimum seven years’ proven experience in business development, proposal design, and donor engagement in large-scale international NGOs, preferably in fragile or conflict-affected contexts.
- Demonstrated success in driving innovation in programming, partnerships, or financing models.
- Experience of leading strategic programming and review processes.
- Excellent networking and relationship-building skills; ability to confidently engage senior stakeholders and donors.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills; ability to challenge conventional approaches constructively.
- Proven ability to coordinate complex proposal processes and deliver quality results.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Recognizes the growing value of data within an organization and make decisions grounded in analysis and evidence.
- Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for traveling to Welthungerhilfe's project countries.
- Team player with strong communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written); additional languages an asset.
