Mission and objectives

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Context

The Unite campaign against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women. In 2025, the campaign focuses on ending digital violence against all women and girls.

UN Women’s cooperation with UNV has established a Special Programme Initiative, aiming at engaging UN Volunteers to support UN Women and in particular the Unite against Gender-Based Violence campaign globally.
