Education Assistant (GBV Prevention)

UNESCO's founding mission, which was shaped by the events of World War II, is to advance peace, sustainable development and human rights by facilitating collaboration and dialogue among nations.[It pursues this objective through five major programme areas: education, natural sciences, social/human sciences, culture and communication/information. UNESCO sponsors projects that improve literacy, provide technical training and education, advance science, protect independent media and press freedom, preserve regional and cultural history, and promote cultural diversity.

UNESCO assists in the translation and dissemination of world literature, helps establish and secure World Heritage Sites of cultural and natural importance, works to bridge the worldwide digital divide, and creates inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication.[14] UNESCO has launched several initiatives and global movements, such as Education For All.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women.

UNV has established a Special programme Initiative, aiming at engaging UN Volunteers to support UNESCO and in particular the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in Ukraine

The selected UN Community Volunteers will assist the UNESCO Antenna team in Ukraine in dissiminating social media posts, webinars, and teaching materials. These materials will empower educators to integrate awareness-raising activities on gender-based violence into their educational practices.

Under the direct supervision of Senior Education Coordinator within the UNESCO Antenna in Ukraine as well as the direct supervision of Education and MHPSS Officer the UN Community Volunteer will:

• Undergo induction briefing on processes and activities undertaken by UNESCO under the 16 Days of Activism against GBV campaign
• Assist UNESCO in promotional campaign across social media (through reposts, dedicated posts, and engagement).
• Attend and contribute to the UNESCO webinar dedicated to the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
• Deliver a class session (if possible) using UNESCO’s methodological materials with students or peers.
• Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

This is an unpaid volunteer assignment.
