Mission and objectives
With its establishment on 7 April 1948, WHO works worldwide to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the vulnerable. WHO’s goal is to ensure that a billion more people have universal health coverage, to protect a billion more people from health emergencies, and provide a further billion people with better health and well-being.
Context
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women.
In March 2025, WHO/Europe launched a Special Initiative to Respond to Violence Against Women and Girls (SIVAWG)* and in cooperation with UNV ROECA is jointly aiming at engaging a UN Volunteer to support WHO/Europe before and during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in the Europe and Central Asia region, 25 November to 10 December.
The selected UN Community Volunteer will assist WHO/Europe team in Denmark and Turkiye in Awareness, Advocacy, and Outreach: Supporting WHO Europe to organize and produce online campaigns and content, use social media to amplify messages about ending violence against women, and map/engage/manage partners/collaborators/influencers, with the goal of amplifying WHO Europe’s messaging and building partnerships.
