Mission and objectives
UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan (2022-2025), focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices.
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction. UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.

Context
The UNFPA, United Nations Population Fund, promotes gender equality, reproductive health, youth empowerment. The organization was created in 1969, the same year the UN General Assembly declared “parents have the exclusive right to determine freely and responsibly the number and spacing of their children”. Together with partners, UNFPA works in 150 countries.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Every year, the UNITE Campaign focuses on a specific theme. The campaign calls on citizens to show how much they care about ending violence against women and girls by sharing the actions they are taking to create a world free from violence towards women.
UNFPA in cooperation with UNV has established a Special programme Initiative, aiming at engaging UN Volunteers to support UNFPA and in particular the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign in the United Republic of Tanzania.
The selected UN Community Volunteers will assist UNFPA team in United Republic of Tanzania in:
● Awareness, Advocacy and Outreach: Supporting UNFPA to organize local events, online campaigns, and use social media to amplify messages about ending violence against women. In addition, selected UN Community Volunteers will engage in creative activism through art and community outreach, raising awareness and promoting stories.
