The WFP Kenya Country Office (KCO) implements an Internship Programme designed to deepen understanding of the United Nations by providing practical, hands-on experience within the World Food Programme. The programme offers graduate students an opportunity to gain professional exposure in their respective fields of study and specialization, both within programme areas and across various offices in the country.

The Country Office is now seeking to select Interns for Cohort 3, 2026, for an eight-month programme with opportunities in both Field Offices and the Nairobi Office. For Field Office placements, priority will be given to candidates from the surrounding local communities to enhance impact.

Applicants must be Kenyan nationals, recent graduates, and residents of Kenya. Candidates placed in field locations will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation near the respective duty stations. Proficiency in the local language is required for this role to ensure effective communication with stakeholders.

Intern - Business Transformation Unit, Nairobi

The internship is designed to provide structured, hands‑on exposure to IT operations, digital solution development, data analysis, and broader digital transformation initiatives within the BTU. The role supports the 2026 unit objectives by contributing to enhanced IT service delivery, enabling infrastructure and cybersecurity improvements, promoting the adoption of enterprise digital tools, strengthening cross‑unit collaboration, and supporting the development, maintenance, and optimization of low‑code/no‑code applications and digitized workflows that replace manual processes.

Key Responsibilities

IT operations:

  • Assist in IT Service Desk operations, including logging, tracking, and resolving user incidents.

  • Support hardware and software setup, maintenance and upgrades

  • Contribute to network and connectivity monitoring for Nairobi and field offices.

  • Assist to maintain and update IT asset inventory and documentation.

  • Assist in user training and awareness of corporate digital tools and knowledge management sessions

  • Participate in cross-unit collaboration initiatives meant to identify user IT pain points and work on resolving them.

Solutions Development and Data analytics:

  • Support low-code/no-code application development and maintenance (e.g., PowerApps, internal workflow tools).

  • Assist in requirements gathering and documentation for digital solutions supporting business units.

  • Support testing, bug tracking, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for internal applications.

  • Assist in basic database tasks, including data validation, cleanup, and reporting support.

  • Support integration activities between systems (e.g., APIs, data exchange workflows) under supervision.

  • Assist in monitoring application performance and uptime for internally developed systems.

  • Contribute to data quality assurance and basic analytics tasks (dashboards, reports).

  • Participate in digitization initiatives aimed at automating manual or paper-based processes.

  • Support documentation of system architectures, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Expected Outcome:

IT operations

  • Weekly incident resolution and service desk reports.

  • Updated IT inventory database

  • New and updated Training materials and user guides for new digital tools.

  • Blueprints for digitizing manual processes in different units from cross-unit collaboration initiatives

  • Increased cybersecurity initiatives

Solutions development and Data analytics

  • Documented business requirements and process flows for at least one internal digital solution.

  • Test cases, UAT reports, and issue logs for supported applications.

  • Updated application documentation, including user guides and technical notes.

  • Basic dashboards or reports supporting operational or program data needs.

  • Contribution to at least one digitized workflow or automated process.

  • Improved data quality through validated and cleaned datasets.

Qualifications Required:

Education: A recent graduate (within the last 6 months) with a Bachelors in Mathematics and Computer Science, Business information Technology, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Business Computing, Business Innovation Technology , or related field.

Language: Fluency in Oral and written English.

Computer literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Duration of Internship : 8 months
