The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB/the Bank) is seeking to recruit an Intern, Private Sector Division. 

THE DEPARTMENT

The Private Sector Division (PSD) of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) drives economic growth in the Bank’s Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) by supporting Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and fostering private sector development.  This is achieved through a strategic focus on enhancing the international competitiveness of high growth firms, stimulating financing and investment flows for Caribbean economies as well as financial inclusion.

The operations of the Private Sector Division (PSD) are anchored in CDB’s Private Sector Strategy (PSS) 2023 - 2028.  The PSS focuses on enhancing private sector ecosystems in CDB’s BMCs to facilitate the continued growth of firms.

PSD has responsibility for:

  • improving access to credit and strengthening the regulatory environment and broader ecosystem within the private sector; and
  • facilitating trade and promoting MSME growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The main tasks for the internship period are as follows:

  • Working closely with the PC, Project Officer (PO) and key partnering institutions to support the implementation of the SheTrades Caribbean II Programme, with responsibility for assisting with research and evaluation related to the programme and supporting the Team with administrative, procurement and reporting requirements of the Caribbean Development Bank as follows:
  • assisting in the design and implementation of data collection and analytical tools and support the conduct and analysis of research related to programme and project components.
  • presenting research findings in engaging and innovative formats to stimulate interest and foster public-private dialogue with both internal and external stakeholders. This will include preparing reports, blogs, and informational articles on emerging trends, forecasts, and issues affecting the development of Caribbean women-led businesses and their participation in trade and export, thereby informing programme implementation and promoting the work of the Hub.
  • supporting the execution of all logistics required for programme visibility events, and coordinate the hosting of workshops, meetings, and stakeholder engagements. This includes facilitating effective interaction between the programme team and stakeholders, particularly WLBs who are members of the SheTrades Caribbean Hub.
  • Supporting programme monitoring and evaluation by assessing and reporting results, including contributing to the preparation of monthly progress reports.
  • Assisting in preparing the quarterly programme report, which will outline:
  • activities implemented to date, and the reasons for any significant delays incurred in the implementation of each activity;
  • progress towards achieving planned outputs and outcomes based on the agreed performance indicators, measured against the SheTrades Caribbean Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework and plan;
  • activities planned for the next quarter, including actions required to improve programme performance and mitigate risks; and
  • recommendations.
  • Assisting the PC in planning of Programme Steering Committee (PSC) meetings and participating in programme monitoring meetings.
  • Assisting the PO in executing:
      • the regional work programme of the SheTrades Caribbean Network of Focal Points:
      • sensitisation and promotion of SheTrades Caribbean Hub across the Region.
      • the support/ execution of workshops/webinars and market access initiatives such as trade missions/tours/shows.

REPORTINGREQUIREMENTS

The Intern will report to the MSME Coordinator, PSD through the Programme Coordinator, SheTrades Caribbean.

EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme, in an accredited tertiary level educational institution or a recent graduate from at a minimum, a Bachelor’s programme (not more than 12 months) in International Trade, Private Sector or Business Development, Project Management, Business Administration, Research and Analysis, or Communications.

COMPETENCIES

The Intern should possess:

  • A minimum of two (2) years conducting research and generating research results to inform development programmes, policy documents and knowledge tools.
  • Awareness of the regional business climate.
  • Be a professional and confident speaker, delivering presentations to a range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in use of generative AI tools and automation of work processes.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word programmes.

LOCATION,  DURATION AND TIMING

The assignment will be based at CDB’s headquarters in St. Michael, Barbados over a 3-month period commencing on June 1, 2026 and ending on August 31, 2026.
