NIB's Legal, headed by the General Counsel, handles all legal aspects of NIB’s lending and treasury activities, provides legal advice on institutional and administrative questions and supports the Bank’s management and governing bodies in legal matters. 

We are now looking for an Associate Counsel to join our Administrative Legal Affairs Unit. The position is full-time for a fixed term of two (2) years and is located at our headquarters in Helsinki, Finland. 

The Administrative Legal Affairs Unit advices on the procurement of goods and services for NIB’s own account, drafts and negotiates all of the Bank’s sourcing and other administrative agreements and contributes to the development of NIB’s own legal framework. 

As part of our Unit, you join a team of three lawyers who work closely with NIB’s procurement function and business and support functions across the Bank. Your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating IT, HR and other services agreements 
  • Carrying out legal research in areas of contract law and legislative developments relevant for sourcing agreements and the development of NIB’s own rules and regulations 
  • Updating and creating new contract templates and standards 
  • Contributing to our journey to enhance the use of technology and AI to support legal work 

You will also have the opportunity to familiarise yourself with public international law in the context of NIB’s status as an international financial institution. 

Qualifications and skills: 

 From the Associate Counsel, we expect: 

  • Master of Laws degree (LLM or equivalent) – we especially encourage applicants from the Bank’s Nordic and Baltic member countries to apply 
  • Recently graduated or up to 1-2 years of professional experience – previous experience from drafting and reviewing agreements is considered an advantage 
  • Fluency in English 

  • Excellent IT skills, and a keen interest in legal tech and automating processes and documents
