Programme Associate (Forestry and Mangrove)

BACKGROUND
IUCN, represented by its Bangladesh Country Office, is implementing projects with support from various donors. To ensure the smooth operation of these projects, IUCN requires a Programme Associate (Forestry and Mangrove).
JOB DESCRIPTION
•MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance from the Senior Programme Officer, Forest Environment and Climate Change Programme Associate (Forestry and Mangrove) will be responsible for implementing the project activities and project development, especially in the light of the Partnership Agreement between donor and IUCN .

•SPECIFIC DUTIES
Under the overall guidance from the Senior Programme Officer, Forest Environment and Climate Change Programme Associate (Forestry and Mangrove) will undertake following specific responsibilities:

•PROJECT MANAGEMENT
-Support planning and implementation of mangrove restoration and afforestation activities using approved restoration methodologies in collaboration with local stakeholders and Forest Department.
-Assist in establishing and maintaining demonstration plots for mangrove and forest ecosystem restoration including geo-tagging and proper documentation.
-Assist the thematic coordinator for Rapid Climate and Disaster Risks Assessments and Detailed Resource and Landscape Mapping of Impact Zone of Sundarbans
-Assist to the FLR lead for the Restoration Plan of Sundarbans Impact Zone using ROAM
-Monitor survival, growth, and health of planted mangrove and forest species, and maintain regular records using standardized monitoring tools.
-Conduct field surveys and data collection on vegetation, soil, hydrology, and biodiversity in restoration sites, ensuring environmental and social safeguard compliance.
-Support the development of species selection guidelines and planting protocols based on site conditions.
-Assist in identifying degraded forest areas suitable for restoration and ecosystem rehabilitation.
-Work closely with local communities, co-management organizations, and field-level Forest Department staff during activity implementation.
-Facilitate community mobilization, awareness sessions, and training events on mangrove restoration and forest protection.
-Support the formation and capacity building of community-based resource management groups.
-Ensure effective coordination with other project components (livelihood, monitoring, communication).
-Assist in maintaining GIS-based maps, databases, and monitoring records related to mangrove and forestry activities.
-Assist the M&E Focal Point and the Project Manager with indicator tracking, data collection and analysis, quality assurance, and timely reporting following M&E framework of the project.
-Prepare regular field reports, progress updates, and documentation on restoration outcomes.
-Carry out any other duties assigned by the Senior Programme Officer Forest, Environment & Climate Change or Country Representative to ensure smooth project operations.
