About Us

The Security Strategy Research Institute of Japan (SSRI) was established on July 17, 2019. Its predecessor was the Center for Security Strategic Studies (SSRC) established in 2006. The purpose of the institute is to conduct research on the international security environment, military situation, and security strategy related to Japan. By widely disseminating the results to the public and fostering human resources related to security and defense, we are contributing to strengthening Japan's security and defense.

Role Overview

The Foreign Policy Analyst will play a key role in providing strategic, forward-looking analysis on Central Asia–U.S. relations. This position is ideal for experienced analysts seeking to contribute substantive research and policy insights within a professional, internationally oriented research institute. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, engaging critically with complex geopolitical issues, and delivering high-quality analytical outputs. 

The role contributes to SSRI’s research agenda by producing high-quality Foreign policy analysis that informs institutional research outputs, supports strategic discussions, and contributes to broader policy and security debates related to Japan’s international positioning.

Job Description

1. Responsible for conducting in-depth research in the fields of international relations and foreign policies between Central Asia and the U.S.

2. Analyze Central Asia’s policy dynamics on the US, and put forward forward-looking research suggestions.

3. Track and analyze domestic and foreign policies.

4. Participate in other work assigned by the Institute.

Job Requirement

1. Minimum of  5 years of professional experience in International Relations, Foreign Policy  Analysis, Security Studies or related fields..

2. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent policy-oriented research, including strategic analysis and assessment of complex geopolitical issues.

3. Proven writing capability, with experience producing policy briefs, analytical reports, or strategic recommendations for professional or expert audiences.

4. The analyst is expected to work with a high degree of independence, demonstrating sound judgment in research design, analytical framing, and the development of policy-relevant conclusions.

5. Experience collaborating with research institutions, government bodies, or policy-focused organizations is highly valued.

6. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote and international research environment.
