IDLO INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

IDLO internship programs are designed to provide a mutually beneficial relationship between IDLO and university students, young graduates, post-graduate students, or persons similarly situated (collectively referred to as Interns). IDLO offers interns an exceptional learning experience in an international organization. Internships also benefit IDLO by allowing participants to contribute their skills and competencies to the realization of IDLO’s strategic goals and mission. Interns are fully involved in the work program of the Unit or Department that has selected them to carry out assignments relevant to their studies and experiences under the supervision of IDLO staff.  

THE INTERNSHIP

A Finance Intern is sought for an interesting professional learning opportunity to contribute to the Corporate Finance Unit's work, with an immediate start.  Under the supervision of the Financial Accountant and in collaboration with relevant colleagues, the intern will be asked to support the unit with the following duties:

  • Support the review and validation of payment requests in accordance with organizational policies and approval thresholds.
  • Assist in the preparation of payment packages and initiate invoice registration in the financial system.
  • Maintain accurate online filing of supporting documentation for all NAV transactions
  • Support the physical archiving of financial documents in compliance with record-keeping requirements.
  • Assist with month-end balance sheet reconciliations, including vendor and intercompany accounts.
  • Support the preparation of documentation for the institutional interim financial audit.
  • Take minutes for Finance unit meetings, ensuring accurate recording of discussion points, decisions, and action items.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Special Projects:

  • Chart of Accounts Review — Following an initial review of the chart of accounts, assist with gathering feedback from all relevant stakeholders and prepare a consolidated summary of findings and recommendations.
  • Bi-Annual Unit Report — Support the preparation and production of the bi-annual report documenting activities and achievements of the Finance unit.
  • FX Rate Provider Evaluation — Assist the Treasury Officer in the mid-year evaluation of the competitiveness of StoneX as IDLO's foreign exchange rate provider.
  • IDLO Intranet – Support the updating of the finance unit intranet page.
  • Business Central – Support the team in the transition from MS Navision to Business Central.

Job Requirements

Educational qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Ongoing professional accounting studies, such as ACCA or CPA, would be an added advantage.

Languages

  • Fluency in both oral and written English is required.
  • Working knowledge of other UN languages would be an added advantage

Technical competencies

  • Excellent accounting knowledge; accounting fundamentals and compliance.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS applications; Excel spreadsheet mastery.
  • Financial data analytics skills
  • Knowledge of business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.

Behavioral competencies

  • Good team player, positive attitude, flexible mind, comfortable working in multi-cultural settings
  • Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently, as well as in a small team, and doing so in a well-organized manner and exercising sound judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.

Terms & Conditions
