Are you ready for a career with a lasting impact?
The World Bank Group’s Young Professionals Program (YPP) offers exceptional professionals from around the world the opportunity to apply their specialized technical expertise, broaden their experience, and contribute to solutions to some of the most pressing development challenges. Young Professionals (YPs) work across the World Bank, IFC, MIGA, and ICSID in support of our mission to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet. For more than 60 years, this highly competitive program has selected outstanding professionals to contribute to the institution’s work and develop as future leaders in global development.
We seek candidates who demonstrate strong leadership potential, exceptional technical skills, and a clear commitment to our mission and values. As a YP, you will collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and institutions, applying your expertise to help address pressing development challenges and improve lives around the world.
YPs join the World Bank Group on an initial two-year term contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance. During this period, YPs complete three eight-month rotations: one with their primary function and area of expertise, one cross-institutional rotation, and at least one rotation based in a country office.  These assignments enable YPs deepen their technical and operational knowledge while gaining experience across different areas of the institution.
Through the YP Academy, YPs undertake a structured learning and development journey that includes technical and operational training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. They also receive individual coaching, connect with mentors, and participate in strategic dialogues with senior leaders.
The Department for Outcomes is a corporate delivery and change team at the center of the World Bank Group's shift from measuring activity to managing for impact. Its mandate is to make outcomes visible, comparable, and actionable, so that leaders and teams can understand where the institution is changing lives, where progress is off track, and what needs to change next.
The Department leads the implementation of the World Bank Group Scorecard as an accountability, management, and communications tool. It develops and improves outcome indicators, methodologies, and targets in areas such as jobs, climate, private capital, women, and youth; provides quality assurance; and connects outcome ambitions to knowledge, operations, and financing. Through its Outcome Measurement and Outcome Delivery units, the Department combines corporate reporting with portfolio analytics, forecasting, regular stocktakes, and action planning across the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA.
The Department also has a growing global role. It convenes multilateral development banks, development agencies, researchers, and external experts to improve and align outcome approaches, build institutional capacity, and modernize the profession of results measurement. Its work reaches from project-level data to senior management decisions, and from new methodologies inside the World Bank Group to shared approaches across the international development system.
Technology and innovation are core to how the team works. The Department develops AI-enabled analytics, data pipelines, forecasting models, interactive visualizations, and decision-support products that turn large and complex datasets into clear choices for operational teams, senior management, and external stakeholders. A piece of analysis is not considered finished when it is technically correct; it is finished when it helps improve a decision, a process, or a development outcome.
The culture is entrepreneurial, collaborative, and demanding. We move quickly because the needs are urgent. We test ideas early, learn from users, improve continuously, and expect high standards from concept through delivery. The team values intellectual curiosity, rigorous analysis, direct communication, ownership, thoughtful risk-taking, and the readiness to challenge established practices. Young talent has been a major source of the Department's innovation and rapid delivery; the selected candidate will be expected not only to contribute to the agenda, but to help shape it.
What You’ll Deliver
The Department for Outcomes is seeking a candidate who can move fluently between code, evidence, strategy, and delivery. The successful candidate will combine strong data science and quantitative research skills with knowledge of development operations and a passion for evidence-informed decision-making and institutional change. You will begin in the Department for Outcomes and contribute across both the Outcome Measurement and Outcome Delivery units.
Assignments will evolve with the Department's priorities and the candidate's comparative strengths, but the role will require both depth and range: the ability to build a reproducible analytical workflow, interrogate the logic and quality of an indicator, extract a strategic signal from portfolio data, communicate it clearly to senior leaders, and work with teams to translate the finding into action. The position offers unusual exposure to corporate strategy, operational delivery, senior management decision-making, and a global network of institutions working to strengthen development outcomes.
  • Support the development, testing, and refinement of outcome indicators and methodologies at project and portfolio level, including data collection, cleaning, exploratory analysis, and quality assurance of WBG Scorecard indicators, and manual reviews of results frameworks in project documents (PADs, ISRs, ICRs) when required.
  • Support the development and monitoring of outcome targets to inform evidence-based decisions on strategies and portfolios, including reviews of strategy and project documents, curation of outcome data, application of forecasting techniques to estimate future portfolio-level results, and synthesis of key findings.
  • Contribute to the AI for Outcomes program by designing, building, and maintaining analytical tools and data products—including applications that use large language models (LLMs), natural language processing, and other machine learning techniques—to strengthen outcomes measurement, generate operational insight, and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Contribute to methodological notes, indicator guidance, and quality assurance of results data, drawing on research and evaluation methods used across MDBs to strengthen the credibility and comparability of reported outcomes.
  • Analyze outcome metrics from WBG operations, aggregate results, and monitor where and how the institution is delivering development outcomes, extracting insights that inform strategic decision platforms supporting WBG senior leadership.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, visually compelling, and well-designed presentations, briefs, dashboards, talking points, and briefing notes for senior management and other technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Contribute to the rollout of outcome-related action plans and to cross-cutting thematic work (such as jobs, climate, private capital mobilization, women, and youth) in coordination with Regional teams, the vertical Vice Presidencies, IFC, and MIGA.
  • Support project management across analytical workstreams, including scoping assignments, coordinating inputs from multiple teams, tracking timelines, and helping ensure the timely delivery of high-quality outputs.
  • Support the Department’s convening, learning, and capacity-building role with internal and external stakeholders, including other multilateral development banks and external advisory bodies such as the Jobs Council.
  • Contribute to additional work program priorities of the Department for Outcomes as needed.

What You’ll Bring
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in economics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, information systems, public policy, public administration, international development, business management, or a closely related field, ideally with a focus on data science and analytics; a PhD is an advantage.
  • 2–6 years of relevant professional experience in data science or analytics, results measurement and monitoring and evaluation, portfolio management, management consulting, development finance, public policy, or related areas. Experience in management consulting or portfolio management with exposure to senior executive audiences is an advantage.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a strong combination of academic preparation, relevant experience, technical depth, operational aptitude, and collaborative behaviors, with the ability to bridge the gap between “code” and “business value” for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, with high proficiency in Python and SQL (and/or R, Stata), and familiarity with statistical and machine learning methods, including natural language processing and LLMs.
  • Working knowledge of software engineering best practices (version control, modular design, testing, and reproducible workflows) and experience working with large datasets, modern data ecosystems, and cloud-based environments, including data ingestion and transformation, relational databases, data APIs, data quality validation, and processing of structured and unstructured data. Experience building or contributing to end-to-end analytical pipelines, AI-enabled applications, or interactive dashboards is an advantage.
  • Strong data visualization and presentation skills, including high proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, and the ability to structure complex information into accessible, well-designed visuals and consulting-style narratives suitable for high-level audiences.
  • Solid understanding of research and evaluation methods, including approaches used in MDBs, and methodological grounding in indicator development, measurement, evidence sources and data collection, and results reporting (including dashboards).
  • Understanding of development operations and results frameworks; familiarity with the WBG or other MDB project cycle, results measurement systems, or the WBG Scorecard is an advantage.
  • Project management and organizational skills, including the ability to scope assignments, manage multiple workstreams, coordinate across teams and stakeholders, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.
  • Outside-in, client-oriented approach with the ability to understand and anticipate client needs, navigate complexity, multitask, and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments with shifting priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex technical and quantitative information clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences and to tailor communication style to audience needs.
  • Superior integrative thinking skills, with the demonstrated ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to seek out, collate, and synthesize inputs from across sectoral and thematic boundaries into an integrated point of view on development outcomes.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural, multidisciplinary teams and to act as a connector between technical, analytical, and operational perspectives.
  • Strategic and creative mindset, with drive, initiative, results orientation, and flexibility, and a demonstrated interest in international development, the WBG mission and values, and in strengthening the measurement and achievement of development outcomes.
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages is an advantage.

WBG Culture Attributes:

1. Sense of Urgency – Anticipating and quickly reacting to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
2. Thoughtful Risk Taking – Taking informed and thoughtful risks and making courageous decisions to push boundaries for greater impact.
3. Empowerment and Accountability – Engaging with others in an empowered and accountable manner for impactful results.
