Investment Manager, Debt Sustainable Food - Africa

Nairobi, Kenya | Permanent Position

We are looking for an experienced investment professional who combines strong financial and credit analysis skills with a genuine interest in agriculture, food systems and sustainable development. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, structuring and monitoring debt investments that support entrepreneurs, agribusinesses and financial intermediaries operating across the African food value chain. This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya and reports to the Regional Team Leader, Sustainable Food - Africa.

Your Role

As Investment Manager, Debt Sustainable Food - Africa, you will play a central role in originating, evaluating and managing debt investments across the region.

You will:

  • Identify and develop investment opportunities that align with Incofin's investment strategy, risk appetite and impact objectives.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with entrepreneurs, agribusinesses, financial institutions and ecosystem partners.
  • Assess business models, financial performance, management teams, market dynamics and credit risks.
  • Lead financial, operational and impact-focused due diligence assignments, including field visits across Africa.
  • Structure debt transactions and negotiate commercially sound terms with potential investees.
  • Prepare investment memoranda and present recommendations to Incofin's Investment Committees.
  • Monitor portfolio companies and financial institutions, identify emerging risks and opportunities and contribute to portfolio quality and performance.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of developments within agricultural markets, food value chains, financial sectors and the broader economic environment in your countries of focus.
  • Contribute to the reputation, visibility and growth of Incofin's Sustainable Food platform across the region.

Your Profile

We are looking for an investment professional who is intellectually curious, commercially minded and motivated by the opportunity to combine financial performance with sustainable development impact.

You hold a master’s degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline and have at least five years of relevant professional experience. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Commercial banking, agricultural banking or SME banking.
  • Agricultural finance or food and agribusiness lending.
  • Corporate banking, structured finance or private debt.
  • Impact investing, development finance or investment management.
  • Credit analysis, risk assessment and financial modelling.

Experience in agriculture, food systems, or financial services for agricultural businesses is a strong advantage. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong credit and financial analysis capabilities.
  • The ability to assess and understand complex business models and financing structures.
  • Sound commercial judgement and a balanced approach to risk, return and impact.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-management skills.
  • The confidence to engage with senior executives, business owners, investors and financial institutions.
  • An entrepreneurial, proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in dynamic and often challenging market environments.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in English and French are required. Knowledge of African markets and experience working across multiple African countries will be considered a significant asset. The role requires regular travel across Africa (approximately 30% or more of working time). Please note that qualified applicants must already possess a valid work permit for Kenya.
