WHO WE ARE

The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) is an international organization working to accelerate action on adapting to climate change. We support adaptation solutions at the international and the local levels, partnering with the public and the private sector.

Our focus is firmly on those who are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change; communities least prepared to withstand the health, social, and economic impacts of the climate emergency are our priority.

Founded in 2018, our organization is based in regional offices across key global locations. Our Europe office is located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in the largest floating office in the world. We also have regional offices in Kenya, Ivory Coast, Bangladesh, and Beijing, as well as a dedicated knowledge and research hub in Groningen, the Netherlands.

Our work encompasses high-level policy development, research, agenda-setting and advocacy to drive faster and deeper climate adaptation. We collaborate closely with partners to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of results where they are most needed.

WHAT WILL YOU DO

Under the supervision of the Project Leads and Infrastructure Lead, the Research Assistant will support the development and execution of the "Building Climate-Resilient Supply Networks" project. Key responsibilities include:

Research and Analysis

  • Conduct literature reviews on climate resilience, supply chain vulnerabilities, and adaptation strategies for small island states.

  • Assist in the development of a multi-layered supply chain network model to simulate the flow of essential goods across different levels (import/export, inter-island distribution, and local distribution).

  • Analyze the impact of climate events on supply networks and evaluate the effectiveness of proposed adaptive interventions.

Data Collection and Field Engagement

  • Compile data on supply chain operations, infrastructure, and climate patterns for São Tomé and Príncipe or the Comoros.

  • Support field data collection efforts, including engaging with local stakeholders and mapping supply chain processes.

Knowledge Product Development

  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, policy briefs, and presentations summarizing research findings.

  • Assist in visualizing data and modeling results for publication and stakeholder dissemination.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Participate in meetings and workshops with local governments, NGOs, and community groups to gather insights and validate findings.

  • Present updates and interim results to internal and external audiences.

General Support

  • Provide administrative and logistical support for project-related activities.

Undertake other related tasks as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the project.
