JOB SUMMARY:

The Nurse is a key member of IRC’s MMU, responsible for delivering high-quality primary health care services to conflict-affected and displaced populations through mobile outreach. Working in close collaboration with the MMU Doctor and Psychologist, the Nurse ensures that essential medical services are accessible to vulnerable individuals in hard-to-reach or underserved areas.

This role combines the responsibilities of a Community Nurse (80%) and a Community Health Promoter (20%). The person in this position will primarily deliver community-based nursing care, basic diagnostics, and medication dispensing, while also participating in health promotion activities, data collection, and community outreach. This role contributes to both the clinical and preventive aspects of IRC’s health programming.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Community Nurse (80%):

·Provide nursing care to clients

·Perform basic medical diagnostics: blood pressure, glucose, ECG, etc. and record results following IRC protocol. Offer self-care advice to patients.

·Dispense medications prescribed by the doctor and explain the method of application according to the prescription.

·Maintain comprehensive medical records of all patients visited by the MMU team.

·Collaborate closely with the doctor and pharmacist to ensure uninterrupted consumption, ordering, and replenishment of medications and supplies for the MMU.

·Contribute to improving quality of care through feedback and documentation.

Health Promotion and Outreach (20%):

·Conduct health needs assessments and observe public health concerns in visited communities.

·Support planning and implementation of awareness-raising sessions on topics like SRH, MHPSS, NCDs, outbreak prevention, and healthy lifestyles.

·Monitor and report on public health conditions in the community, provide consultations, and develop strategies to improve sanitary and epidemiological conditions.

·Collect data through interviews and observation, update service mapping.

·Refer individuals to services using safe and appropriate referral pathways.

·Provide insights for improving health promotion strategies and outreach efficiency.

·Participate in weekly/monthly reporting on health promotion activities.

·Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·Diploma or degree in nursing or related health field (mandatory).

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in nursing practice in clinical or outpatient settings, with significant experience in palliative and home care. Experience working with psychiatric patients is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in health programs and experience with NGOs is an advantage.

·Strong communication skills and ability to conduct community sessions.

·Comfort and experience in public performance, as well as facilitating community engagement sessions, are essential.

·Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian is required, and basic knowledge in English is desirable.

·Proficiency in IT skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is essential for tasks such as data collection, mapping updates, and providing detailed weekly reports on outreach activities.

REPORTING LINES

·Position reports to Senior Health Officer.

·Closely collaborate with Mobile Medical Unit Doctor, Pharmacist, MHPSS Senior Officer, and other IRC health staff.
