Context

The UN Volunteer will support the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Nigeria’s Sub-office in Benin City, which implements programs on migration governance, counter-trafficking, and migrant protection.
Benin City is a hub for human trafficking and irregular migration, requiring robust policy advocacy and capacity-building efforts. The volunteer will contribute to research, stakeholder engagement, and awareness campaigns to strengthen protection mechanisms and reduce vulnerabilities.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Benin Sub-Office, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Assist in analysing national/regional migration policies, with a focus on counter-trafficking frameworks, gaps, and compliance with international standards.
- Contribute to drafting policy briefs, reports, and recommendations for government and NGO partners.
- Support the compilation of migration trends and trafficking data through desk reviews, surveys, and stakeholder interviews.
- Help maintain databases and visualize findings (e.g., dashboards, maps) to inform programming.
- Participate in meetings with government, UN agencies, and civil society to strengthen migration governance coordination.
- Document outcomes and action points for follow-up by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) teams.
- Contribute to organizing workshops/training sessions on migration policy, victim protection, and rights-based approaches.
- Assist in preparing advocacy materials (e.g., presentations, policy position papers).
- Collaborate with the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s protection and counter-trafficking teams to integrate policy findings into operational responses.
- Support monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess policy impact.
