Organizational Setting
FAO Lebanon is implementing a range of projects to enhance the fisheries sector, contributing to sustainable food systems and rural livelihoods. These efforts align with the FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa’s (RNE) strategic framework, particularly Regional Priority 3 (RP3) – Greening Agriculture. RP3 promotes climate-smart solutions, integrated land and water management, and biodiversity conservation.
The project will contribute to FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-31 which is seeking to support the 2030 Agenda through the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.
The Technical Assistant Fisheries will support the National Technical Coordinator in ensuring the effective implementation of these projects. This includes providing technical and logistical assistance, coordinating with stakeholders, and contributing to monitoring and reporting. The role is essential in bridging operational needs with strategic goals, ensuring that fisheries initiatives are environmentally sustainable and socially inclusive.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Lebanon, the supervision of the Program Leader, and the direct supervision of the Technical Coordinator Fisheries and in collaboration with FAO units and external stakeholders.
Technical Focus
The primary objective of the Technical Assistant Fisheries is to assist the Technical Coordinator of Fisheries in ensuring the successful implementation and coordination of FAO’s fisheries-related projects in Lebanon. This includes providing specialized technical support in areas such as fisheries resource management, aquaculture development, and data collection and analysis; offering administrative assistance; facilitating coordination with stakeholders; and ensuring compliance with FAO guidelines, technical standards, and best practices.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of fisheries projects.
• Support in providing information and documentation for the development of project proposals, work plans, budgets, and technical documentation.
• Conduct field visits, assessments, and surveys to collect data and provide input for project improvement.
• Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and recommendations.
• Assist in the coordination among project partners and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
• Assist in organizing and participate in meetings, workshops, and training sessions related to fisheries projects.
• In collaboration with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) unit, support the development and implementation of M&E frameworks for fisheries projects.
• Assist in tracking project progress and preparing regular reports.
• Ensure compliance with FAO guidelines and standards in all project activities.
• Support in identifying training needs of project staff and stakeholders.
• Support the organization of capacity-building activities, including logistics and documentation.
• Assist in the development of training materials and coordination of training sessions.
• Collaborate with the Knowledge Management team to document and disseminate best practices and lessons learned.
• Maintain organized records and archives of project documentation and outputs.
• Provide administrative assistance including scheduling, correspondence, filing, and procurement support.
• In collaboration with the admin unit, assist in the preparation of purchase orders, and other administrative documents as deemed required
• Ensure timely processing of project-related administrative tasks in coordination with relevant FAO units.
• Perform any other related tasks as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University degree in fisheries, marine sciences, environmental sciences, or related field
• 4 years of relevant experience in technical projects support and/or administrative roles within development projects especially in fisheries or any related field and relevant field support, data management, reporting, and project administration.
• Working knowledge of English (level C)
• National of Lebanon.

• Work experience in more than one location or area of work
• Extent and relevance of experience and knowledge of the fisheries sector in Lebanon.
• Experience with a International NGO is desirable.
• Familiarity with computers and Microsoft Word, Excel essential
