Position Background

The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) is implementing a multi-year, in-country program to assist the Ukrainian authorities in developing a sustainable process for accounting for missing persons and ensuring that the rights of families of the missing are upheld.

The nature of ICMP’s mandate in Ukraine requires staff to engage regularly with conflict-affected communities, families of the missing, and professionals exposed to distressing information and emotionally demanding work. To sustain a healthy, effective, and supportive working environment, ICMP seeks to engage a Psychological Wellbeing and Resilience Consultant.

The Consultant will contribute to ICMP’s staff care framework by providing psychological wellbeing support, promoting effective communication both between staff and external actors, and building staff capacity to engage empathetically and professionally with conflict-affected populations, people experiencing grief, and colleagues under stress. Through regular group sessions, targeted workshops, and team-based activities, the Consultant will enhance the overall resilience and wellbeing of ICMP personnel in Ukraine.

Purpose of the activity

The purpose of this consultancy is to strengthen the psychological wellbeing, communication skills, and professional resilience of ICMP staff in Ukraine. By fostering a supportive and psychologically safe working environment, the activity aims to enhance staff capacity to effectively engage with conflict-affected populations, families of the missing, and other stakeholders, including representatives of national authorities and civil society organizations.

Through structured group sessions and thematic workshops, the Consultant will provide staff with practical tools and knowledge related to stress management, prevention of burnout, empathetic and professional communication with people affected by conflict and loss, and strategies for maintaining resilience in demanding work environments.

Ultimately, this activity will contribute to the quality and sustainability of ICMP’s assistance in Ukraine. By supporting staff wellbeing and strengthening their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, the consultancy will have a direct positive impact on families of the missing and on ICMP’s cooperation with national and local partners.
