Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is in Treasury within the Office of Program Planning Finance and Budget (OPPFB) of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). Treasury is seeking graduate students who wish to gain professional experience in an international organization to supplement their studies. The internship provides practical educational experience working in a multicultural and intergovernmental organization. Under the supervision of a Senior Finance and Budget Officer, the intern is assigned projects and tasks that are relevant to their educational background and interests and provide them with the opportunity to apply and further develop their theoretical knowledge. The internship is for a period of six months maximum. The internship is UNPAID and is designed to be remote or in-person. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned. Interns will support the Treasury Risk and Compliance Section in data collection, analysis, and other assigned tasks. The assignments will include: 1. Support the development of treasury compliance activities. 2. Support the development of the United Nations debit card programme. 3. Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data. This includes: • Taking notes and minutes of meetings. • Obtaining and filing documents and internal data from UN Secretariat entities in different formats (i.e., Excel, PowerBI, Management Information Systems, Microsoft Word, PDF). • Conducting qualitative, statistical and quantitative analyses of the data collected. • Developing dashboards including data cleaning, coding and recoding. • Visualizing the data using MS Excel and Power BI.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and analytic tools such as Power BI.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
