About this position

We are seeking a proactive and dynamic Education Specialist to manage the IDB’s education portfolio in Suriname. As a key member of the Education Division, you will oversee the execution of grants and technical cooperation, support the preparation of new initiatives, coordinate strategic sector dialogue with government and sector counterparts, and contribute to positioning the IDB’s education agenda in Suriname.

You will be part of the Education Division within IDB’s Social Sector, and will work in close cooperation with the Country Office. The Education Division supports education sectors across Latin America and the Caribbean, advancing new knowledge and innovation in the sector, and engaging in regular dialogue with governments, civil society, and technical and financial partners of the Bank to promote educational development in the region

What you’ll do

  • Lead or contribute to the Bank’s dialogue with executing units to support program planning and implementation by applying advanced technical knowledge, project management tools, and methods.
  • Lead or support the identification, development, and implementation of complex education sector projects, programs, studies, or main activities in Suriname, working under moderate supervision and within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate moderately complex research and analysis, contributing to the development of innovative knowledge products related to the education sector in Suriname.
  • Support policy dialogue with the Government of Suriname, development partners, and other stakeholders, by proposing evidence-based and context-appropriate solutions informed by regional experience and institutional analysis.
  • Collaborate with country-based colleagues from the Education Division and other sectors in the design and execution of multi-sectoral programs aligned with the Bank’s institutional strategy.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with international, regional, and local stakeholders to leverage technical expertise and financing opportunities and advance the objectives outlined in the Education and Skills Thematic Framework Document.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative approaches, policy recommendations, and strategic adjustments that enhance the region’s capacity to improve learning outcomes.
  • Provide input and recommendations aimed at improving education sector performance and enhancing the impact and effectiveness of the Education Division’s portfolio in Suriname.

What you'll need

  • Education: You hold a master’s degree in education, economics, public administration, public policy, sociology, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
  • Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of relevant and substantive experience in the education sector in developing countries, and the promotion, programming, design, financing, supervision, execution, and evaluation of education projects.  
  • Languages: Proficiency in English, spoken and written, is required. Additional Dutch would be a plus. Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, or French is preferable.

•    Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our . Must be eligible to work in job location(s) without the need for sponsorship. 

•    Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
 

Type of contract and duration

•    National: National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
