The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is implementing a humanitarian health and nutrition response in Alkufra, Libya, to address critical nutrition needs among vulnerable populations, including children under five, pregnant and lactating women (PLW), migrants, and displaced families. The intervention aims to strengthen community-based nutrition services, improve early identification and management of malnutrition, and ensure timely referral to appropriate health and nutrition services.
As part of this intervention, the IRC seeks to engage an Outreach Nurse for the Nutrition Program to support community-level nutrition activities, screening, referral, follow-up, and health education, under the supervision of the Nutrition Officer and Medical Team Leader.
Scope of Work
The Outreach Nurse will support nutrition program activities at the community and facility level in Alkufra and surrounding areas. The nurse will be responsible for conducting outreach nutrition services, supporting screening and referral of malnutrition cases, providing nutrition and health education, and strengthening linkages between communities and IRC-supported health and nutrition services.
The Outreach Nurse will engage with the Nutrition Officer, Medical Team Leader, medical staff, and relevant referral facilities to ensure quality service delivery, continuity of care, and adherence to national and IRC nutrition and health protocols.
Expected Outcomes / Deliverables
- Conduct high-quality community-based nutrition outreach activities, including MUAC screening, identification of acute malnutrition cases, and referral to appropriate nutrition or health services in line with national guidelines and IRC nutrition protocols.
- Support nutrition awareness and health education sessions for caregivers, pregnant and lactating women, and community members, focusing on infant and young child feeding (IYCF), maternal nutrition, and prevention of malnutrition.
- Assist in follow-up of referred and enrolled nutrition cases in coordination with nutrition and medical teams.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, screening results, referrals, and follow-up data, ensuring data quality, confidentiality, and timely reporting.
- Coordinate closely with the Nutrition Officer, Medical Team Leader, and health facility staff to ensure integrated service delivery and effective communication with the community.
- Support adaptation and dissemination of nutrition education and IEC materials as required.
- Participate in program meetings, supervision sessions, and Quality and Performance Improvement activities as requested.

Duration of the Work
The expected duration of engagement for the Outreach Nurse will be three months, with the possibility of extension based on program needs and project timeline.
Key Working Relationships
The Outreach Nurse will engage with the nutrition officer and MTL, and provide all above mention services.
The Outreach Nurse will not have line management responsibilities for internal staff.
Duty Station
This service contractor will provide services primarily in Alkufra, including health facilities and surrounding communities as required by the nutrition program.
Qualifications and Requirements of a Successful Individual Contractor
• Qualified Nurse (registered or licensed) with experience in primary healthcare and/or nutrition programs.
• Previous experience in nutrition outreach, screening, or community health activities is an advantage.
• Resident of Alkufra or familiar with the local community and context, with ability to build trust and rapport.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and conduct regular field activities.
• Good communication skills and ability to read and write in Arabic; working knowledge of English is an asset.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
