About this position

We are looking for a strategic, collaborative, and results‑oriented Communications and Knowledge Consultant. As Communications and Knowledge Consultant, you will support the Environmental and Social Solutions Division (VPS/ESG) by strengthening internal and external communications, enhancing knowledge dissemination, and improving engagement with a broad range of stakeholders beyond ESG and the Bank. The role focuses exclusively on communications and knowledge functions in support of executing agencies, government counterparts, global partners, and the interested public in member countries.   

You will work in the Environmental and Social Solutions Division (VPS/ESG), which is responsible for ensuring that IDB‑financed operations are environmentally and socially sustainable and aligned with the Bank’s policies.

What you’ll do

  • Design, implement, and monitor strategic internal and external communications initiatives that translate complex environmental and social topics into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • Develop communication briefs, key messages, narratives, and editorial plans to guide content production across multiple initiatives and workstreams.
  • Produce and manage communication products such as newsletters, email campaigns, presentations, and outreach materials, ensuring consistency, quality, and strategic alignment.
  • Provide communications support for events, workshops, policy dialogues, and knowledge initiatives, including preparation of materials and follow‑up dissemination.
  • Support communications around high‑level regional and global engagements (e.g., international forums and conferences) to strengthen ESG positioning and visibility.
  • Engage and coordinate with internal IDB counterparts and external stakeholders, including executing agencies, government institutions, global partners, and the general public.
  • Manage and curate the ESG Hub as a central knowledge repository, coordinating inputs from technical teams and ensuring knowledge products are organized, up to date, and accessible.
  • Track, analyze, and report on communication activities and engagement metrics, and prepare summaries and reports on outreach and knowledge‑sharing results.

What you'll need

  • Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in communications, marketing, journalism, public affairs, international development, or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.  
  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in strategic communications, public relations, knowledge management, or related fields, preferably in international organizations, development institutions, government, or consulting environments.  
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is an asset.

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
     

Type of contract and duration

  • International consultant Full-Time, 12 months (up to 48 months, subject to eligibility).
