Job Overview/Summary: The WPE Prevention Officer is Under the overall supervision of WPE Senior Officer, WPE Prevention Officer will oversee prevention and risk reduction activities such as safety audits, awareness sessions, behavior change curriculums including Girl Shine and Coffee and Tea by following GBV guiding principles. The WPE Prevention Officer will provide technical support and guidance to the partner organization. The position requires a personal commitment to advancing women’s issues and working on behalf of women and girls in the community.
Main Responsibilities
- Reinforce adherence to the GBV guiding principles throughout all WPE activities
- Provide supervision, coaching, and training to partner organization’s Adolescent Girl Facilitators.
- Provide supervision or mentoring to the staff from partner organizations to implement GBV prevention activities including conducting assessments and risk identification activities
- Facilitate GBV prevention related training for both IRC and partner organizations
- Carry out and analyze information from monthly safety audits and community consultations to identify risks faced by women and girls in the project areas
- Ensure PSS and life skills activities follow the IRC’s Girl Shine curriculum, and modify the Girl Shine curriculum based on the context and time with the assistance of Senior WPE Officer and WPE Manager
- Identify and refer vulnerable girls to access case management services
- Design and prepare the training aids – IEC materials for Girl Shine life skills sessions and facilitating the roll out process by close collaboration with Senior WPE Officer and WPE Manager
- Design and facilitate awareness and engagement activities for parents and caregivers and the larger community
- Identify program gaps and needs and communicate and work with Senior WPE Officer to respond, addressing issues raised by partner staff, community focal points and the community
- Conduct twice a month facilitation spot-checks for partner’s facilitators in GBV education sessions and other GBV prevention activities
- Conduct regular team meetings with partner facilitators/educators and community focal points to understand the gaps and needs in implementing GBV prevention activities
Reporting
- Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and quarterly work plans in a timely manner for supervisor’s review and feedback
- Compile and develop a monthly activity report (Training report, Safety Audit report) to supervisor
- Ensure proper documentation for activity related records
- Ensure all activities relevant financial documents are accurately completed and submitted, as required by IRC policies
Coordination and Representation
- Together with partner organization staff, identify concerns related to camp/ community layout, safety and security, water and sanitation access, etc., and develop strategies for constructively sharing these concerns with relevant actors.
- Support other stakeholders, including government actors, other humanitarian actors, and communities/leaders in identifying strategies that reduce risks faced by women and girls.
- Coordinate closely with WPE Manager for advocacy issues
- Attend meeting on behalf of the WPE program as relevant or requested
Others
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with IRC policies and procedures.
- Other duties assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programming.
What should you have?
Education
- Bachelor’s degree (Social Science, Humanities, Public Health or other related field) or equivalent professional experience
Experiences
- At least 2 years of professional experience in NGOs in community mobilization, social work, counseling, or psychosocial programs
- Experience facilitating training, workshop, or mentoring others
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Clear understanding of and experience related to gender, human rights, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls
- Strong desire to work with women and girls and address the issues they faced
- Demonstrated working experience in community engagement and behavior change activities
- Demonstrate understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients.
- Previous work with or within a women’s organization, preferred
- Strong ability to organize work, coordinate multiple tasks, meet deadlines, work in a professional environment, work under pressure, and work within a multi-culture team
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including community leaders and other implementing partners
Language
- Fluency in local language must be an asset
