The Monetary Economic Department (MED) supports this mission by gathering and analysing a large array of data and statistics on global financial systems and macro-/micro-economic activity. From this, we generate a variety of insights that are used and relied upon by central banks, financial regulatory institutions, and academia around the world. Indeed, some of the source data sets we work with and the ways in which we combine them are unique to our organisation.

But we know that our full potential is yet to be achieved. Our aim is to collect a wider variety of data and harness new technology to generate more powerful insights. This is a chance to be involved in a step change in our capability.

  • Work with advanced technologies, including AI, Machine Learning, Lakehouse engineering, and big data platforms.
  • Collaborate with experts across disciplines and international organisations.
  • Benefit from a flexible, hybrid work model combining onsite work in Basel with remote options.

  • Design, develop, and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines and platforms, including metadata, orchestration, and monitoring, following DevSecOps best practices.
  • Deploy analytics tools to deliver timely, high-quality insights through dashboards, APIs, and self-service data marts.
  • Utilize AI/ML methodologies to automate and enhance processes such as anomaly detection, forecasting, and document processing.
  • Manage IT products end-to-end, including roadmaps, budgets, vendor relationships, and performance reporting.
  • Provide IT and administrative support to MED users, customers, and steering committees.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, and compliance through data contracts, cataloguing, and access controls.
  • Contribute to architecture reviews, establish design standards, and mentor colleagues to promote best practices and inclusive collaboration.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Graduate degree in computer science or a related IT field, with experience in software development or data engineering.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C# .NET, or Java.
  • Expertise in structured data modelling and processing.
  • Experience embedding AI capabilities into software systems and managing the statistical data lifecycle.
