ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the largest humanitarian organization saving and changing lives worldwide. WFP’s latest analysis shows 318 million people facing acute hunger – not knowing when, or if, they will eat again. The needs are immense, and that’s why the Private Partnerships Division (PSP) is investing in fundraising from individuals. WFP’s individual fundraising programme is the fastest growing among our peer set (IFL Forum) and with ambitious plans for the next strategy period, we aim to reach a cumulative income of USD 1.4 billion from 2020-2030. Unique in the sector, WFP fundraises globally from a centralized team that reaches hundreds of millions of people in 180+ countries. Our strategy is digital-first; we recruit supporters primarily through Meta, Google and TikTok, and provide a world-class supporter experience via email, SMS, What’s App, outbound telephone and social media. The programme is currently expanding to support six core languages: English, French, Arabic, German, Korean and Chinese.
PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
This position sits within the Acquisition Team – a team of nine, primarily responsible for recruiting supporters through global paid media activity. The purpose of this new role is to support our two marketing channel specialists in the optimisation, technical and financial management of digital advertising channels: Meta, TikTok, Google, and Bing. You will receive 1:1 training and guidance from our in-house advertising experts and learn to optimise multi-million dollar advertising channels independently during their periods of leave or absence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Roles cover a wide range of tasks as required to deliver on the team’s evolving needs and ambitious fundraising targets. The list below is not exhaustive but great care will be taken to ensure a balanced workload.
1. Ad platform monitoring and troubleshooting
•Monitor daily reporting to flag and resolve any data or performance issues.
•Monitor campaign delivery to promptly spot and address ad rejections or other delivery issues.
•Monitor tracking via pixels, Meta CAPI, TikTok events API and Google Enhanced Conversions.
•Perform regular ad account health-checks and QA processes.
•Monitor ad credit limits, POs and invoicing to ensure continuity of ad spend.
2. Hands-on campaign setup and execution
•Complete campaign setups for seasonal and emergency search ad campaigns
•Support the optimisation of budgets and bid strategies.
•Perform regular CRM-based audience updates for targeting within the ad platforms
3. Ad platform optimisation and best practices
•Keep up to date with the latest ad platform changes, including testing Google’s betas, to continually update our best practices documentation and provide technical platform guidance for the team.
•Support on the execution of AB testing within ad platforms.
•Prepare and present BAU and post-campaign reporting to identify new learnings, insights and opportunities.
4. Collaboration with internal and external partners
•Liaise with our partners at Meta, TikTok and Google on day-to-day issues like ad rejections and campaign delivery.
•Support our internal team of campaign managers with questions or challenges regarding ad platform data, campaign execution, new features or platform changes.
•Participate in regular meetings with Meta, TikTok and Google to collaborate on both day-to-day matters and wider, strategic initiatives.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
•Each advertising channel has performed in line with agreed fundraising targets.
•The latest best practices are defined and followed across all channels.
•Technical and performance issues have been promptly identified and resolved.
•Strong relationships are in place with our partners at Meta, TikTok and Google.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education
▪A first level university degree or higher.
Work history
▪Minimum 2 years of work experience in digital advertising
▪Technical, hands-on experience in at least one of our advertising channels, and an eagerness to learn the others, is essential.
▪Media agency experience is preferred.
▪No prior fundraising experience is necessary.
Technical skills
▪Understanding of core advertising metrics
▪Knowledge of Google Ads/SA360
▪Knowledge of Meta Ads Manager
▪Knowledge of TikTok Ads Manager
▪Familiarity with Tableau (or similar)
▪Familiarity with AB testing
Soft Skills
▪Communication: you can turn complex topics into concise updates, always communicating openly and proactively.
▪Technical aptitude: you enjoy diving into the technical aspects of advertising, learning new platforms and solving technical challenges.
▪Organisation and prioritisation: you can reliably manage a high volume of tasks across different workstreams, with the ability to adapt and reprioritise your work flexibly in response to changes.
▪Attention to detail: you’re thorough, methodical and meticulous in completing tasks like QA’ing and campaign optimisation to avoid errors.
▪Collaboration: you’re a team player who fosters trust and builds strong relationships with team members and external partners.
▪Analytical mindset: you can naturally spot trends in data and you’re passionate about using data to make the most effective decisions.
▪You’re available to work out of hours when occasionally required, for example in sudden-onset emergencies
Languages
▪Excellent command (C1 minimum) of English.
▪Knowledge of our other fundraising languages (French, German, Spanish, Chinese or Arabic) is preferred.
