Job Description

Are you passionate about cloud technologies and curious about how large-scale organisations keep cloud usage efficient, transparent and under control?

Join CERN's Cloud Enablement Team and help shape how public cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Azure are adopted and operated. In this role, you will work at the intersection of software development, data analysis and cloud operations, building tooling and insights that enable teams to use public cloud services responsibly and efficiently.

You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, cloud architects and project teams, contributing hands-on to automation, cost monitoring and reporting for real production workloads. This is an excellent opportunity to gain deep exposure to multi-cloud environments while developing practical engineering and analytical skills in a highly collaborative, international setting.

If you are motivated by learning, enjoy building practical solutions, and want to work on real-world cloud challenges at scale, come join us!

Your responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation that interact with public cloud APIs to support cost control, budgets and alerts.
  • Collect, process and analyse cloud usage and billing data to provide clear, actionable cost insights.
  • Build and operate dashboards and reports for cloud cost monitoring, forecasting and anomaly detection.
  • Help define and enforce cloud resource tagging and cost attribution practices across projects and providers.
  • Support day-to-day FinOps operations, including monitoring spend, investigating anomalies and assisting project teams.
  • Contribute to documentation, runbooks and knowledge sharing around cloud cost management and best practices.

Your profile

  • Experience with at least one public cloud provider (AWS, GCP or Azure).
  • Familiarity with native cost management tools in AWS, GCP or Azure (e.g. budgets, cost explorer, billing exports) is a plus.
  • Experience with FinOps methodology/best practices and data-driven decision-making for cloud consumption is a plus.
  • Experience writing scripts or small applications for automation, data processing or analysis.

Skills

  • Programming or scripting experience (e.g. Python or similar languages).
  • Interest in public cloud platforms (experience with AWS, GCP and/or Azure is a plus).
  • Basic understanding of APIs, data formats and automation workflows.
  • Analytical mindset and interest in working with usage, billing or operational data.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary, international team and communicate clearly.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Computer Science or a related field (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
