We Effect is recruiting a Financial Controller as part of a team working with MSD approach on a programme in North Macedonia. The workplace is based in Skopje. The employment is a fix-term position till the end of the project. The probation period is six months. Start date 20th of April 2026 or sooner.

Main responsibilities


The position is under the We Effect IISEE
Phase II Programme[1] (Income Increase and Socio-Economic Empowerment of Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups from Rural and Sub-Urban Areas) and the main responsibilities are to ensure a professional and efficient financial management of the programme, quality assurance and support to partner organisations in North Macedonia.
The position assumes close collaboration with the members in the programme team
and the Global Finance and Compliance team, under supervision of the Team Leader.

About you

To succeed in this role, you should be knowledgeable and experienced in accounting and finance, specifically with hands-on experience in financial management of programme budgets, financial planning, design and reporting, as well as compliance with donor agreements. This position is central in developing, monitoring, and revising budget for the IISEE programme, supporting co‑funding arrangements that secure the programme’s financial sustainability, managing accounting processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting across internal operations, partners, and donors.

You are motivated to contribute to a strong financial and administrative routine and can work both independently and collaboratively in an international development environment. You are solution-oriented, detail-focused, and ready to contribute to resource mobilization for co-funding of the programme, budget proposal preparation, and budgeting deliverables.

You share the values of We Effect and are interested in a professional environment that supports development programmes. You are proficient in English and comfortable using it in daily professional settings.

You have knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end closing process. You are familiar with usage of accounting software user and have excellent administration skills.

Example of tasks

·         Lead the preparation of budgets and forecasts in line with donor regulations, international accounting standards, and We Effect policies.

·         Revise budgets as needed to reflect changes in funding, programme priorities, or donor agreements.

·         Support resource mobilization efforts for the IISEE Programme by designing co-funding and providing financial analysis

·         Book, analyze, and monitor consolidated accounting records for the IISEE programme in We Effect’s financial system Xledger, perform bank reconciliations and prepare periodical and annual programme financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.

·         Ensure accurate and timely consolidated financial reporting to We Effect Global Finance and Compliance team and donors according to signed agreements.

·         Review and monitor financial reports submitted by partners, identify and address discrepancies or risks in partner financial practices.

·         Plan, carry out and follow up financial compliance monitoring and capacity building of partner partners within IISEE  programme.

·         Responsible for maintaining and archiving financial documentation, both electronical and hard copies, in accordance with local laws and We Effect regulations.

·         Manage financial operations including exchange rates monitoring, FRAS follow up, partners absorption of funds, liquidity planning, due payments; and quality of supporting documentation etc.

·         Cooperate with the programme team and Global Finance and Compliance team regarding the follow-up of budgets, periodic budget revisions, financial reports and requests for funds

·         Monitor procurement processes in all levels of the programme - make sure that the procurement file is complete, correct, and compliant to the We Effect’s procurement policy, during the procurement process and before payment.

·         Coordinate and support the annual financial audit process, securing audit deliverables are produced as per contract and follow-up of audit findings and ensuring approprpiate corrective actions and measures proposed are in place and executed;

Required qualifications

·         University degree or equivalent in economy, business, or related field.

·         Minimum five years’ experience in financial management and administration of programmes.

·         Strong knowledge of accounting and financial principles, general ledger functions, and books closing.

·         Competency in Microsoft Office application preferably advanced use of Excel.

·         Knowledge or experience in Enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

·         Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

·         Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Macedonian.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills to contribute to the positive reputation of the organisation.

·         Work permit in North Macedonia

Compensation Package:

The compensation package includes:

·        Net salary, subject to negotiation (comprising of base salary + % for years of service depending on the selected candidate’s work history in PIOM)
