The Manufacturing, Agribusiness & Services (MAS) Industry Group plays an important role in supporting IFC’s strategic priorities, covering investments in global manufacturing and services, agribusiness, health, and education. MAS sectors play a critical role in providing goods and services to consumers, addressing core needs, creating jobs, contributing to government revenue and stimulating growth. In IFC’s client countries, these sectors can account for as much as 80% of overall economic activity and can account for up to 90% of employment activity, particularly in the poorest countries.
The Group is looking for three Investment Analysts to be based in Mexico City, Mexico, Sao Paulo, Brazil or Bogota, Colombia. Investment Analysts work closely with IFC’s Investment Officers, who are responsible for the design, negotiation, structuring, and subsequent supervision of the Corporation’s investment projects.
Duties and Accountabilities
The Investment Analyst will support the team in Latin America and the Caribbean in investment operations, portfolio management, and upstream market development activities. The role involves financial analysis, market research, and preparation of investment documentation while working closely with internal and external stakeholders.
Transaction Support and Financial Analysis
• Conduct financial and operational analysis of investment opportunities, including financial statement analysis, financial modeling, and sensitivity analysis.
• Support due diligence efforts by gathering and analyzing information on companies, projects, sectors, and markets.
• Prepare benchmarking analysis, including pricing comparables, credit metrics, and market data.
• Assist in preparing investment documentation and internal approval materials, including investment committee papers and transaction memos.
• Contribute to the structuring of straightforward transactions by analyzing risks, returns, and financial soundness of potential investments.
Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Analysis
• Support portfolio monitoring activities by analyzing financial performance, risk and development impact indicators, and compliance with loan covenants.
• Assist in credit risk assessments, portfolio reviews, and valuation analysis, including monitoring changes in portfolio risk ratings.
• Prepare portfolio monitoring reports and support internal processes related to waivers, amendments, and restructuring discussions.
• Compile and analyze portfolio data to support investment officers in portfolio performance assessments.
Market Research and Business Development
• Conduct industry, sector, and country research to identify emerging trends, potential clients, and new investment opportunities.
• Prepare sector mapping and client analysis to support business development and pipeline building.
• Analyze prior IFC investments and market benchmarks to extract lessons and identify opportunities for future engagement.
• Contribute analytical inputs to country strategies, sector strategies, and client pitch materials.
Upstream and Strategic Initiatives
• Support the development of upstream initiatives by conducting research, data analysis, and market assessments to identify market gaps and opportunities for private sector solutions.
• Prepare industry and market analysis in support of Country Private Sector Diagnostics (CPSD) and other strategic initiatives.
Stakeholder Coordination and Knowledge Management
• Collaborate with internal teams including legal, environmental and social specialists, economists, and sector experts to support transaction and portfolio activities.
• Coordinate data collection with clients and internal teams to support financial, operational, and development impact assessments.
• Prepare analytical presentations, reports, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Selection Criteria
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in investment banking, credit rating, private equity, financial advisory, corporate finance or financial institutions.
• Strong financial analysis and modeling skills, including financial statement analysis, valuation techniques (DCF, comparables), and sensitivity analysis.
• Ability to analyze debt pricing benchmarks, credit metrics, and equity valuation data.
• Solid understanding of corporate finance and investment analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct market, sector, and industry research.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural teams and manage multiple tasks under tight timelines.
Languages
• Fluency in English required.
• Spanish or Portuguese strongly preferred.
