Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.
DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 700 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2025 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.
DRC is currently looking for a Safety Assistant (Radio Operator) in Kyiv. This position is open to Ukrainian Nationals only, for a period of 12 months (temporary replacement).

About the job
The Safety Assistant is to monitor and record all movements of DRC vehicles and staff, as well as to monitor information networks and update local alert groups in a timely way. S/He follows the security situation within the relevant area of operation, forwards information on any changes to the security situation to the safety Department and always maintains a high level of alertness and discipline.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- To be responsible for communication and monitor the movement of vehicles and personnel in the assigned operational area.
- Collect hourly/daily location reports, as appropriate, from the assigned trip/team leader.
- Distribute received messages and information in a timely way to the appropriate persons.
- Monitor verified information networks and provide regular updates on the situation.

Inform the immediate supervisor/manager of the following cases:
- changes in the security situation.
- any incidents that affect the safety of personnel or the operation.
- in any other unforeseen (urgent/important) situations.
- Ensure confidentiality of information received on personnel movements and operations.
- Tracking using the GPS system in an appropriate way, verify that DRC vehicle tracking devices are active.
- Update contact databases for all DRC staff in the area.
- Transfer all relevant information regarding trips received during the shift into the appropriate table.
- Monitor the air security situation in regions.
- Conduct weekly checks of communication equipment.
- Conduct briefings and instruct staff before trips.
- Provide staff with the necessary safety equipment.
- Complete any other tasks as instructed by the manager.
About you
To be successful in this position, we expect you to have preferably at least 1 year of relevant experience. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
