Mission
Geneva Call is a neutral and impartial non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting respect by Armed Groups, De Facto Authorities (AGDAs) and Provisional Governments for international humanitarian norms in armed conflict and other situations of violence, in particular those related to the protection of civilians. Geneva Call focuses its efforts on banning the use of anti-personnel mines, protecting children from the effects of armed conflict, prohibiting sexual violence in armed conflict, working towards the elimination of gender discrimination, protecting civilian infrastructure, and ensuring humanitarian access.
Role
The Financial Controller MENA provides financial reporting and budget support and serves as the business partner to Geneva Call’s programmes in the Middle East region. S/he is responsible for providing a range of financial support to the department including, but not limited to, budgeting, reporting, cash flow, internal control, advisory on finance related matters and ensuring compliance to Geneva Call’s policies and procedures. The incumbent is given the opportunity to further develop existing processes and be a key part of taking Geneva Call’s monthly/quarterly financial reports to the next level.
Work Relations
The financial controller reports to the Deputy Head of Finance and works closely with other members of the finance and support team in HQ and the country offices in the MENA region.
Duties and Responsibilities
Generic Responsibilities
- Compliance and adherence to GC policies, guidance, and procedures and providing financial advice and technical support to the MENA operations team.
- Implement robust internal control measures to uphold compliance with donor and other stakeholder requirements.
- S/he is responsible for reviewing programme and project budgets and forecasts, financial reporting, budget amendments and year end closing of the projects. Provide technical input and advice on financial matters in project application, project implementation and project closing phase
- Coordinate project audits, donor due diligence, answer to donors’ financial questions and attend donor meetings. Working closely with the Donor Relations department.
- Contributing to the development of financial policies, strategies, tools, and new approaches, with a focus on innovation and piloting.
- Ensure that best practices are identified, documented, and disseminated within the department and provide onboarding, training and capacity development related to Geneva Call’s financial systems, procedures and tools.
Specific responsibilities
- Provide specific support to Geneva Call’s offices in the Middle East, understanding of the specific local contexts and assure local financial regulatory compliance.
- Development, application and implementation of specific financial reporting systems for consortiums in the Middle East.
- Specific support to the development of a programme in Lebanon, understanding of Lebanese local context and assure financial regulatory compliance.
- Perform other tasks assigned by Deputy Head of Finance
Requirements
Education (Essential)
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as accounting, management, finance, or commerce.
Experience (Essential)
- 10 years of progressive experience in finance – with at least 3 years in the Middle East.
- 5 years of experience working in a similar role within the humanitarian sector – either in Switzerland and /or MENA, specifically in Lebanon.
- Financial Management: Expertise in budget preparation and financial monitoring, financial accounting principles, and creating financial forecasts and reports.
- Donor Compliance: knowledge and experience of working with various donors on finance, compliance, accounting, reporting, and donor auditing.
- Software Proficiency: Previous experience of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. In-depth knowledge of Excel for data analysis and reporting as well as accounting software.
- Middle East and Lebanon: Essential to have knowledge of relevant financial regulations and audits in the Middle East and specifically Lebanon.
- Experience (Desirable)
- In-depth local knowledge of the financial regulations in MENA region, specifically in Lebanon.
- Previous experience of Business Central and SharePoint.
- Previous working experience with Geneva Call is highly desirable.

- Full professional proficiency in English and Arabic, is required.

- The incumbent must be willing and able to travel at short notice.
